GK 200 MB #1.png
I have a 1988 GK 200MB with a built-in chorus effect, and I've wondered why GK decided to add it since I've never found a reason to use it. I can't remember any recorded popular music where the bass has this effect, so does anyone have examples?

I did actually stumble on to one a month ago, I listened to Michael Jackson's Off the Wall album and learned to play the Off the Wall track because I liked the main riff. I was missing something from the sound and I hit the chorus...perfect! Maybe I'm wrong, but the bass has a very interesting dimension to it in the main riff especially.

Geddy Lee used it quite a bit on the Farewell To Kings/Hemispheres/Permanent Waves recordings. Cygnus X-1 is a notable example.
It is not an unusual effect on Prog-rock recordings.
Many fretless players use a bit chorus.
I think you're right on with the fretless, I can remember some Michael Manring bass that seemed to have it. Sounds familiar.

That probably explains why GK would include it.

Sting. With the Police. Synchronicty II.
Listening to Synchronicity II now, funny I used to play this in a band and never noticed. Listening with good headphones now, I think it'd sound cool with a touch of an Aguilar Octamizer too. I bought today from another TB'er so I can try it out.

I know a lot of Police/Sting tunes, pretty much the only reason I pull out the cheap fretless. Good music.

Darryl Jones uses it on the Still Warm record by John Scofield.

Jaco..so many players...Chris Squier in Roundabout...its a great effect, i use it a lot myself. It can be subtle. Chancellor uses it a lot, but not blantantly.
