Songs with bass 'chorus' effect.

I just bought my first pedal (besides my VT Bass) for my progressive trio and it is an MXR Chorus (with a flanger). It was just a guess so I am delighted to see that you suggested this is a common effect for Prog-rock! :) Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut!

I've also just picked up the MXR Chorus Deluxe and it turns out it was just what I needed to make SCOM sound right. Well, the new Jazz bass helped too. ;-)
I wasn't initially sure I wanted to pay the extra money for the flanger if I wasn't really going to use it but two things happened at once. First, I got unexpectedly paid more than I was, well, expecting. Secondly, I got asked to dep for a local covers band, whose set includes songs by Thin Lizzy, Stiltskin and The Police, so I pulled the trigger on the MXR before I could talk myself out of it. My other choice would have been the Boss CEB-3 but I'm really so glad with what I've got. It's an excellent piece of kit. :-)

That dude in Siouxie and the Banshees rocks the chorus pedal pretty hard.

Never been a fan of chorusy bass, nor have I been a fan of goth rock, but Steve Severin is kind of a badass. Their drummer, Budgie, is no slouch either.

You stole my post!!!

(Siouxsie and the Banshees is one of my favorite bands, and I adore a lot of Goth Rock)

It's worth noting that Steven Severin's pick work is quite heroic, too. He is the master of upstrokes. I'd check out Siouxsie's song "Israel" (and the live video on YouTube) to hear and to see what I mean.

Best,
~Nick "Klaus" G.

Chris Squier in Roundabout

Given that "Roundabout" was recorded in 1971, and commercial digital delays with internal LFOs modulating their delay time weren't available until 1975, and the first dedicated chorus pedal (the BOSS CE-1) wasn't invented until 1976, I'm going to humbly suggest you're hearing something other than chorusing on the "Roundabout" bass track.

I actually saw Siouxie & Co back in '87. They were my favorite band from that whole scene. 'Cept for maybe these guys...

...but I don't think that Dali's Car was really a "band" per se.

There's chorus on this, right?

Barry Adamson used chorus quite a bit on many tracks with Magazine and The Bad Seeds (I seem to recall hearing it quite a bit on Your Funeral... My Trial, and parts of Kicking Against The Pricks and From Her to Eternity)

Almost everything by Joy Division, and a lot of New Order, has chorus on the bass lines - Peter Hook and his EHX Clone Theory.

Definitely with New Order, but did he use chorus much with Joy Division? Outside of some of the late work - Atmosphere, perhaps - I don't hear a lot of chorus, although some of the open string drones definitely have a chorus-y quality...

I think Tony Levin used a chorus (in addition to the octaver) on Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. Seen a few people do bass covers on Youtube, they noted that they had a chorus in the signal chain.
I thought of Peter Gabriel So album last night, another thread about 5 strings. Sledgehammer, Big Time, have that synthy sound, I just read that Sledgehammer was a fretless Music Man with an octave pedal. Not sure if it's a 5'er or not.

EDIT, nah not a 5 string. All Octave pedal, never realized it when it was first released.

Some tracks (like the two above) have the chorus as being really obvious. Maybe it is just my ears, but I feel as though I can hear some chorus on his other lines/parts as well. I could be wrong, perhaps I should make my statement a little less definitive. :)
