I have a sony TV.

We just got a new Sony Bravia LCD. Highly recommended by online customer reviews, and side-by-side with other brand LCDs, I preferred its picture. I love the setup menus. (Went ahead and got the 5-year all-inclusive warranty, though, just in case.)

And I forgot about my Sony Dream Machine clock radio. Bought it in 1990 and it still works great.

Yeah, I bought one of those top-of-the-line weatherproof "sports" walkmans, way back in 1990 and it started malfunctioning a lot sooner than I expected, given how expensive it was.

I've had my eye on Sony since then. IMO they can only milk the good name for so long before their rep deflates and people quit paying the primo moula for their stuff.

Sure, they pioneered the Walkman and used to make the best TVs. That was great, but that was quite a while ago...

Yep, mine broke too. The right one stopped working. It didn't even warn me....just quit playing sound. Jerks!!

I'll try some JVC ones this time around. I need a new set before I fly out to Pittsburgh next week.

There is no love lost between me and Sony! They have built a reputation in the market for quality products, but IMHO, they have not lived up to that reputation for quite a number of years. I've had numerous Sony products, most of which die the day after any warranty expires.
Back in 1993, I bought a new TV. Did my research, and ended up buying a Toshiba. It worked perfectly for 11 years, then one day the audio started to distort, badly. As the TV was 29 inch, the repair man I called came to my house for the initial diagnosis. I figured, what the heck, I have a guy who fixes TV's every day, I'll pick his brain as to what brand he would suggest, if he was on the market.
The conversation went something like this...
Me; You see broken TV's every day, which brand do you see most, on a day in, day out basis?
Him - Sony
Me: is that because sony sells more TV's than anyone else?
Him: that may be part of it, but Sony started to outsource many of their assembly and parts manufacturing away for their own factory's and out to 3rd party's.
(in the mean time, he has now taken the back off of my Toshiba)
Me: So, old Sony's are ok?
Him: generally yes, but I wouldn't buy a new one.

So he's looking at the TV's guts and he starts to laugh...
Me; What's so funny?
Him: Look at this...
He points to a module in the TV and says, that's your audio module, right there... I start to laugh... my Toshiba TV has a Sony audio module in it! And yes, it's toast! The TV left with him and was returned in a couple of days working fine. I had to replace it last summer as the power supply finally went.

I do the same thing with all repair people. Had a tow truck driver helping me out one day when my car died, I asked him, what do you tow more than and other maker" His answer, Honda! I was surprised. He said that if he was to buy a new car, he'd buy a GM, as they are easy to fix, everyone knows how to fix them, and parts can be gotten anywhere.
Please don't shoot me for the Honda comment, just passing along something I learned early in life, talk to folks who know and use that info to make informed decisions.
PS... I HATE SONY!

so after 5 months i get my replacement earphones. phew!
there was this chick there was doing this survey for sony regarding their products and the service center, woah! i let my agony out! wrote in complete detail how after dozens of phone calls and FIVE months i am finally getting my earphones which may again die in another month!
but the good part is that they are at least trying to improve

i find sony to be the best electronics manufacturer out there..

i have a portable cd player that i got 9 years ago.. still works like new. my dvd player, also sony is from when dvd players first came out (it cost $400 back then) and despite my sisters kid managing to get a matchbox car shoved in the thing (which i cant get out) it is still working better than the other 3 dvd players in my house. my ps2 has had soda dumped on and my 2 year old has dropped it several times and it still works. i also think sony's hi def tvs are the best i've ever seen.

as far as customer service, my little brothers broke there ps2 last year.. my mom called sony, she was on the phone for 5 minutes and they sent out a box for her to ship it to them and fix. took a month but they fixed it free of charge 2 years after she had bought it..

I bought some cheapie $10 earbuds at WalMart. I forget the brand. They are blue...have a radioactive sign on each bud. I usually keep them in one of my pockets when at work. I usually forget about them and they end up going through the wash! They've been through a number of times and work without a hitch! I've been through several ear-bud/headphones and these are right up there!
