I'm not sure if this is the correct thread, because it could be a space, strings, or amp issue.
So, here's the thing. I own a Sire V10 fretless (4 string), I use LaBella Deep Talking 49-109 flatwound strings and I plug it through an Ampeg RB-112 amp.
What I notice is some inconsistencies across the soundboard and across strings. For example, in our band's DIY studio, the G notes sound a lot fuller and louder than the other notes, some D notes also, up to a point. On the other hand, the B and C notes, especially on the E string, sound like they are cancelled out, not really heard in the mix, other than some especially sub harmonics.
When I took the amp home to try it out in my living room, it all sounded better, a lot more consistently bassy, except for the open A string which lacked fullness, but not much volume. The amp was right in front of me. When I took it 2 metres away, it all sounded better, even though the open A still lacked something and was a timy bit later than others to develop fully. This open note hadn't been an issue in the band's studio.
Now, when I took the bass to a professional studio, everything sounded consistent all across the instrument. There I use a Behringer 4 speaker cabin with its respective head. I don't remember specifics, other than the fact that the amp is some 15 years old.
I hadn't noticed any of this with previous flatwound strings (I used different brands), but I can't be sure because I hadn't checked with varying factors.
So what is it? Is this all my imagination? Is it the space? Is it an amp problem? Is it the string heavy gauge that causes varying inconsistencies depending on the changing of other factors? Are LaBellas known for such issues?
I really need your opinions and I'm thankful in advance.
