Double Bass Sound Gate 2 Pickup

That sounds really impressive. If I didn't know I could believe the recording was done with a microphone.

Although not bad, I still think it sounds quite ‘piezo-y’ to my ears…Even when it’s compared to his MK Studio EUB, which sounds better, IMHO. And I own one of those and can attest that it sounds exactly like in this demo video:
There have been several surface mount piezo’s. I distinctly remember a similar one Piro Patten used for a while. `Vektor made a contact mic similar to the Ischell that

If you take a close look at the equipment, there's a lot going on there. Other than the pickup. They have a Schoeps CMC recording the bass, and a microphone on the amp. There's also
some signal processing going on with the sound. As you say the playing is beautiful.
You are correct, Earl. So it wouldn't be sensing the top like the Sound Gate II does. The MSP pickup is a surface mound piezo ( I still have mine, I couldn't give it away)
The Ehrlund EAP is a surface mount piezo as well.
Taking a look at the Sound Gate 2 it appears to be a piezo disc embedded in a wood housing that mount the pickup onto the table of the bass, with adjustable screw that fixes it into place. Just my take of course.

Hi Rick,
I ordered one. I like the clever and easy mounting to use this with any bass if one needs more volume. On and off quickly. I know you prefer mics over piezos (I also prefer my red Remic) but quite often the piezo is needed.
I have a Full Circle on two basses ( and a KNA piezo) so it´s nice to make a comparison. Do you remember what were your impressions with your Soundgate pickup compared to the others?

I don’t think Ric has the Soundgate. I believe he said he still has the MSP pickup because he could not give it away.
