I was GAS'ing for a MKII but was always too slow with the click on the classifieds so I never got to try it out and just pre-ordered the III instead.

Agree re the Zeus. Such a fun pedal.

Spencer reckons the III tracks a bit better and sounds the same, which is good enough reason for me to try it.
The fuzz on the Zeus is amazing.

That's a nice nest of potential on your board. I just went through the process and I think I still like to have the option of OD or fuzz and modulation from analog, so yeah, making a bigger board. I've got the EQ2 with the neuro and C4 with that DMC switching it. I am also thinking of adding an analog octaver back to mine. Seems like the only time I have tracking issues is with a lot of octaves. Maybe it's in my head.

I may swap the proton for the Octabvre MKIII for that same reason. I do like the reverse futuristic blaster like sweep of the proton though

You should be able to do that on your C4 too by inverting the envelope in the filter section.

Very good points. To expand on your point 4, you can get all the extra knobs and buttons you want by assigning parameters in the MIDI map. I had been considering getting a big knobby FaderFox controller to pair with it but there’s a new controller coming that I’m getting to be a beta tester for which will blow people’s minds.

I was about to shamelessly plug my double bass patch so now you’ve mentioned it, I’ll pop some clips here too in case people haven’t heard it on the C4 thread. Thanks for the mention. What bass are you using with it and have you managed to get it to sound like my clips? I’m waiting on my P bass coming back from the luthier and want to see how it sounds on that.

I tried the patch using my Stingray with the bridge mutes engaged and it works well too, it gets the high notes to die out quicker as they tend to on upright. Probably worth experimenting with foam at the bridge on other basses too, especially if using roundwounds.

I had an idea for a nifty trick today and it works (but not quite as I expected, but equally well).

I run pedals in the loop of the C4/Spectrum and have a custom patch (which is on neuro) which allows the use of the pedals in the loop with no other effects applied. (C4 doesn’t allow the loop contents to be audible when it is bypassed so that’s why a dedicated patch is required.)

Now, (if switched on in the hardware options) a long press of the foot switch will toggle between red and green banks. So my idea was to have this patch on preset 6 (leaving the toggle switch set to the right) so that a long press from any other patch would jump me straight to preset 6.

What I found is that if you are on presets 7-127 then a long press will always take you back to the green bank. (This wasn’t the behaviour I excepted as 7-127 have a green light.) No biggie though, I can just put my bypass loop preset on preset 3 instead then no matter where I am, a long press will turn my loop on.

This is pretty useful for anyone using a simple up/down preset switcher which doesn’t allow one to jump to a particular patch on command.

Basically, if you are on any preset from 4-127 then a long press will take you straight to preset 1, 2 or 3 (depending) on what position the toggle switch is set at. Could be really useful if you need to quickly jump to one of three favourite patches from anywhere else.

edit - I’ve spotted a bug with this which I’ve just reported to Jesse. There are certain instances where presets 3 and 6 don’t switch bank when long pressed.

Actually the bug is on presets 1-6 but only after a particular order of events. I can reproduce it consistently so it should hopefully get fixed.

Funny you say that @rsmith601 I am wondering if I can get away with using this instead of lugging the upright for the acoustic gig...

I have some free time tomorrow so I'm going to try it with the fretless (Corvette strung with black tapes) and see how close it gets on a side by side. I might record it on my phone to do a blind test like @Quatschmacher did for the filters. Thanks for coming up with that mate!

I’d love to hear the clip. I’m curious how the patch works for other users as it depends partially on the input signal for its sound. I made it on one bass. I have tried it on another and it sounded OK.

All of my basses are custom and are very specific builds. I tried it on my main bass which is a 6 string with round wounds. I used it passive front pickup, she wears Elites Stadium roundwounds and has a pair of Nordstrand Neo humbuckers. These sound a lot like Bartolini humbuckers. Fat and buttery smooth.
This sounded fairly DB but not as close as your Lakland with flats. I then tried it on a 5 string P bass (Nordstrand 51P 5 string) with rounds (I so need to get a set of flats on this bass) and it was a lot closer to your DB tone. However the roundwound zing wasn't helping.
I then tried my 4 string fretless, flats and a MM style Pickup and 2 band active EQ and got a similar result to your recording. So I think that the magic ingredients here are the flatwound strings and the input volume at single coil levels. Playing style...over the neck helps and playing to emphasise the clank sound helps it sound more convincing. Fretless glides don't carry the clank so much (obviously) and can interfere with the next note's clank if the previous note isn't abruptly muted. It's important for the slide to end before then next note is plucked. This lets the C4 track better and apply the neck clank effect to the next pluck.
I'll try this patch on my Piezo loaded hollow body bass in a bit. That's loaded with Thomastik Acoustic core strings. I suspect too muck zing again.

Yes, flatwounds definitely help. Did you back off the passive tone control? That also helps.

I played with the front pickup on full, read pickup dialled back a quarter turn from full and the tone backed off about 1/3. I actually got the best results plucking anywhere from directly over the neck pickup to in between both.

It worked on the 2EQ Stingray too (same type of flats on there) though some of the character of the bass came through. It was still pretty convincing but not as good as having the front pickup be dominant. Can’t wait to try it on my P.

Am I going about editing presets the wrong way?

Whenever I change something and hit save, the change doesn't get saved. If I click on that preset again, it reverts back to how it was. I've tried saving it and then publishing it, but the published preset still doesn't reflect the change...

That function is solely for editing the text associated with the preset as far as I know. To save changes to a preset that you have opened via the “my library” tab, open the preset, navigate to the “device” icon, click “save to cloud” and give it a new name. Delete the old file if you like.

Ahh ok. I've just started out so I was saving lots of cloud presets to my favourites, then transferring them to the pedal, then saving my changes. It would be handy to be able to save my changes to the presets in My Library

If you want to do incremental saves to presets, the easiest way is to burn it to the pedal, make the adjustments there and then when you’re done, save to the cloud.

So on the editor I accidently clicked on a Spectrum preset, and it seemed to work perfectly through the C4. So should I have my filter set on both the C4 and Spectrum, if the C4 can play both?

C4 can indeed load C4 and Spectrum presets. I have written a lot of Spectrum patches so I’d suggest including those in your searches.

Quatschmacher, do you know if there's any way to stop the Presets list switching to 'My Library' every time I add a preset to my library? As I then have to go back on to Community, and it resets to Page 1... So I have to try and find my place again every time XD
