Source Audio or MXR

Hello bass bods.

I want an Envelope filter and have filters from SA and MXR available
My questions is this......... Which would you go for?

The MXR is available for €60, the source Audio for €89.

I already have 2 MXR pedals (el grande and Phase90) and couldn't be happier.
The Source Audio pedal looks and sounds incredible in the videos I have seen but I think it may just be too much of a pedal for me.

I am playing regularly in a cover band doing 90's alt rock, not playing any funk or anything similar I just want the pedal to add a little colour and to grow into if you like.

I am leaning towards the MXR but the Source Audio filter looks amazing.


I just need a little nudge in one direction or the other so getting nudging!

There are two different Source Audio, the standard and pro. If you think the Pro is too much, the standard one is more of a straight envelope filter.

Both are really excellent, easy to use and sound great. I think for the sound your after, Source Audio gets my vote. The MXR is more quacky, with that more high pitched(?) squeaky sound.

The Source Audio (to my ears) has a less intrusive sound, it seems fuller and less peaky when you wish, so I think it would, as you said "add a little colour" rather than dominate better than the MXR.

Just my thoughts, both are really awesome pedals from two companies at the top of their game.

Haha yes the Pro really is an awestrikingly diverse pedal. The standard does have what at first appears to be a lot going on, but after a bit of time it is quite an intuitive pedal.

At the same time though, yes, the MXR BEF is a more traditionally set up pedal
