Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

I will agree on the simplicity aspects. Having listened to lots of analog delays over the last 5 years as we did Nemesis, I think we often win in the "pure" department. Counterintuitive perhaps, but Nemesis has a lovely analog delay engine. The Diffuse is my personal favorite. It is subtle and beautiful.
Warning Note: Roger is not objective!

Why is your manta buried way back there? I guess it's mapped to your midi pedal, so you don't need access to it?
yup, all the switching is done with the hub and the settings are done in the hub manager so I don't really need to get at it but I did leave enuf room for it in front next to the expression pedal just incase I decide I want it up front more than I want that A/B channel switch for my amp that I don't really use, im still on the fence on that one but I might be changing amps soon so that will settle that

For updating firmware, select the pedal in the HUB Manager, click Update Pedal Firmware, and then Soundblox 2 Firmware // SA223...

@nathannavarro Thanks for the reply. But unfortunately I cannot select the pedal in the HUB Manager as it does not appear there at all. Why would this be? As the Manager picks up the aftershock straight away but but the Manta is non existent?

Hmm. When you press SCAN on the HUB, does the Manta's MIDI LED engage/blink? If not, it might be a connection issue. Try using a different TRRS cable and HUB port. Any progress? If not, let's try a Factory Reset on the Manta: Press and hold the Control Input button while cycling power. If there is still no improvement, contact us at [email protected].

Two interesting things to note. One is extremely annoying but not Source Audio's fault.

The Neuro app would NOT work with my iPhone 7 even with the stupid adapter that makes it have a regular headphone plug in. I thought it was the chord I bought, then I tried my iPad and had great success. So that sucks. :(

Two, my Nemesis did something very strange yesterday. It decided to make all of my presets have bit crushing in them. Only one of them actually does. I went through them several times and was completely baffled. LOL! I flipped the pedal on and off a few times and it fixed it, but super odd!!! What would cause that to occur?? I also was editing something in the Neuro app and created a really cool patch and it ruined it! LOL! :(

My Nemesis has done that also, but only once. I "fixed" it by cycling the power. My tweaking had nothing to do with bit chrushing. I was using the Neuro App, no hub, power supply is a Cioks Adam.

Having a few things that are confusing me about Nemesis presets, maybe someone (@nathannavarro?) can help me out a little bit.

(1) are the presets on the face of the pedal the same as the first 4-8 presets you can access via MIDI PC?
(2) is there any difference between MIDI that gets passed through the Hub vs. MIDI that gets passed directly into the MIDI port? (I definitely wouldn't assume they would be different, but I'm testing some things and I want to check)

1) yes, but I think 1 on the pedal is 00
2) should be the same, although some earlier versions of the the Hub had trouble passing blasts of data coming from Boss midi controllers, as you know!

Okay, hmm. I'm not getting the expected response for sending MIDI PC then. For the moment I'm going to have to assume I'm doing something wrong, though I don't have any ideas yet...

1) yes
3) I have not seen a difference, but should test some more to see if one is better than the other

@rsmith601 I just tested things and found that PC to my Nemesis in my setup seems to work with the 5-Pin MIDI connection but not through the Hub. Other MIDI through the Hub (e.g. bypass/engage) seems to work fine. Obviously as you know I've had a lot of back and forth with Jesse on testing the new Hub firmware and he's really hammered out a lot of the kinks that were affecting my particular setup (but also a few others!). I'll write him directly with this info---it may be possible I'm on a different Hub firmware beta than most people because of my testing with Jesse? Or maybe the people who use PC for Nemesis presets are typically doing 5-Pin while people using the Hub are mostly using scenes? Or something else unique to my setup is causing a problem?

Addendum: I tried the 5-Pin MIDI off of the Hub's Thru output and everything works, including PC---so everything appears to be passed properly up to the Hub. But when I disconnect that and only use the Hub TRRS, I retain all MIDI except for PC (as far as I can tell).

Also, PRO TIP: do not connect both the Hub TRRS and the 5-Pin MIDI at the same time. The Nemesis gets very confused!

Yes, Jesse is the best.

Just in case this is your issue: The Hub doesn't transmit MIDI PC through the 1/8" jacks. It transmits Hub scene data. So you need to send MIDI PC to the Hub, configure your Nemesis (and other pedals), then press-n-hold Save on the Hub. Now the Nemesis is saved in the scene just like all other SA pedals.

Well, yes, that is my issue exactly, I just haven't seen any documentation of that (maybe it's somewhere in the manual). It's not just Hub scene data, though, I can do all sorts of other MIDI CC and such through the Hub. PC is the only thing that's filtered out (that I've seen so far). I sort of understand why the choice might be made to favor Hub scene data through the Hub, but I feel like it should do both. Is there a good reason why this would be problematic?

If there is a problem that this potentially causes for some reason in some setups maybe it could be a Hub hardware setting to turn on/off?

More thoughts:

I can also see why it could be problematic in some setups if you have something like a MIDI Mouse sending on all channels and the Nemesis listening on all channels, you would have a scene/Nemesis preset conflict for a single PC command that the Mouse is sending. But, that's easily fixed by setting channels properly, and ultimately I'd like to be able to do both. Maybe a Hub hardware setting to pass/filter MIDI PC? Or a Nemesis setting to accept/reject MIDI PC that comes through the Hub, or just in general?

I'm not sure I'd connect both trrs and 5 pin though?

Right, that was just a byproduct of my testing. I wouldn't either, in general. What I meant was that if the Nemesis can tell what port MIDI messages are coming in on, you could have a Nemesis setting (in Neuro or wherever) that rejects PC on that port. Useful for people who might switch back and forth between using the Hub or using 5-Pin MIDI for whatever reason (but not connected at the same time). Or, if the Nemesis doesn't distinguish between ports, you could still have that global setting of accept/reject PC for people who want to use direct PC vs. people who just want to use scenes.

Again I would stress that I think the "Hub doesn't pass PC" makes some sense for the simple plug-and-play user with an all SA setup. But for a mixed setup I think this option would be great.

Also, as long as I'm being annoying, a second feature request :):

I still haven't figured out how to get 0 delay time when the Nemesis is receiving MIDI clock (useful, for example, for doing a fully wet bitcrushing sound). Maybe CC42 could be updated so that the next value (beyond the value that does 32nd notes) is 0 delay?
