Source Audio Zio Bass Preamp

Sounds very good...I like this review as well...

I have no criticism of the lay out, personally. The toggle selections are there, if desired. A player may find either or both as an "always on" option on a board with 20 other pedals?

The variable HPF onboard is a selling point for me with the other features and the tone results. I see it as an after my pedals, with or without my amp, or as a stand alone application.

Nice job SA!

I'm also not too worried about the toggle switches. I'm unlikely to switch either of them mid-song. If I did need to, my toes so far have no issue with the toggle switches on the Collider.

I use all the channels in both EQ2s. First one I use for slight peak reduction (both channels ) and cleaning up the tone of my bass so it sounds clearer. Then it goes out channel 2 into the 1st channel of my 2nd EQ2 which is my main curve of my tone which in this case is a Pultec style EQ based around 60hz. I come back into the 2nd EQ2 near the end of the chain before the last More. Sounds complicated but is a decent sound. Then the Zio makes it better again.

The EQ2 is one of the best SA pedals made. If you're thinking about getting one then I'd recommend going for it. Amazing pedal.

how many More pedals do you have on your board? Got a pedalboard pic?

ETA - found the pic post. Don’t know why it didn’t load the first time I scrolled by.

Really like what the Scoop switch does on this and how it works with the controls. When you set the bass boost at zero and flick the scoop switch, it just sounds like your tone but scooped a bit. Then as you turn up the bass boost the scoop is sharper and more exaggerated cutting low mids. So if you want a slight scoop whilst keep more low mids I find the control to be best anything before 12 o clock. Boosting the bass past 12 can yield some great dub/reggae style tones out of this while using the focus control to tighten things up.

Like they say in the demo's, it is very easy using this control and the Focus control to quickly dial in great tones. The controls look so simple but they are very clever and well designed in their execution.

Does anyone know what the slope is on the Focus/HPF knob? I didn't see that info on the product page or the docs.
(Because I looked up the info and feel like sharing: the micro-thumpinator is 36db/oct, and the Broughton HPF is 12db/oct.)
Hi!

It's a -12db/octave HPF. It also has a variable resonance as you sweep the filter frequency that gets gradually less resonant when turned to higher frequencies.

We will be adding EQ graphs to the documentation soon. I just need to go take the screenshots from my analyzer first :)

This is what I freakin love about TalkBass: people who actually make the stuff I'm curious about responding to questions.
Thanks!

Finally got a chance to watch the demo vid with good speakers, and able to pay more attention. So, I noticed around 3:20 and 4:57 in the Source Audio video (and maybe elsewhere) the Output knob is at like 9 o'clock, about 9:30 at 5:47. My question for any of @rsmith601 @Gibs210 @NPappas , what is unity volume? Looks like The Bass Channel demo also is about 9 o'clock in most demos, no matter the bass or style.

Edited to add: the last clip, Dancing in September, it was at 8 and, when they turned it on, definitely a drop in volume, but a bit more presence or punch. And saw the site says -6db - +16db range, so maybe around 9 is unity?
Yeah, unity gain is generally at around 9 o'clock, but it can change a bit (or just the perception of unity gain) based on how much you're boosting the bass and/or the treble.
