Yeah, unity gain is generally at around 9 o'clock, but it can change a bit (or just the perception of unity gain) based on how much you're boosting the bass and/or the treble.

I play an Ibanez SR505 with hot Bartolinis, and so far I've found 8 o'clock is close to the sweet spot for me. Gonna do some more tinkering tonight and this weekend into DAW. Test into amps tomorrow night. Interesting about the volume and bass control. Had to turn my treble, mid, and bass down on my bass, especially the treble to eliminate hiss.

Engaged the Grit just once and was immediately clipping and distorting, have yet to try turning the trim pot.

I did a test with a loop of Herbie Hancock's Bring Down the Birds going through bypassed, engaged, with Scoop, with Grit (my screw was turning full rotations and seems to have come somewhat unstuck, but found something somewhat workable, prob won't engage that much), and then just twiddling knobs to taste. This time ended up with Bass around 1, Treble around 1, Focus at 2:30.
The track that did post, is Phish's Martian Monster, which I already had a scene for. Tweaked it a bit, and liked how the Zio shaped the sound a bit better. The higher end, I'll adjust. But liking so far. Will test it with an amp tomorrow night.

I've had mine for about a week . Found it's hard to sound bad when using it . I only use a pre of some kind with a Genzler 4 on the floor and tuner on my board . Got rid of my HPF because of the ZIO's . The ZIO is great for on the fly tone changing . I've been running it into the front Demeter and Ampeg heads . It sounds great straight into effects return or power amp . I'm digging this thing . I like keeping stuff simple and this does most everything I need .

I ordered a ZIO direct from Source Audio on Jan 10th (no Canadian retailers had it then, and I don't think any have it now either). It appears to be stuck in a snow drift since the 11th. I'm rooting for the little guy, hope it makes it home soon.

A little late in reporting, but with the amps, was quite impressed with the Zio. Had to flatten Bass and Treble on the "effects amp" GK MB115 and lower the volume even more, had it about 7 o'clock on gain and master volume. The "clean amp" Acoustic B100 didn't have to change anything. When I engaged the C4, it was quite the volume spike, but wasn't too loud, and actually seemed very well "tamed". Unfortunately, had a sample rate error on the recording that has rendered it all but useless. But looking forward to its next rehearsal trial. Also, gonna have to find another right angle XLR, got one, but fits awkwardly.

both sound great on their own but together, even better.

i like the grit feature a lot just for adding a little thickness. i runhave my trimpot on it at about 35%.

I've been thinking about this exact set up . Or a UA LA-2A pedal . Maybe both....hehe .

I have the grit feature on really low/hard to tell and it gives some compression to my tone.

Well...

I have succumbed to the overwhelming and irresponsible draw of this jade wonder box...however, being the heathen that I am, it will be sitting next to my amp head and not carousing with other pedals...

I know...heresy!
