Now all I need before deciding yay or nay is to see a freq plot of the focus/HPF knob, or even just to know what freq it's centered at with the knob ccw, at noon and cw.

These are NOT in any way official plots. I'm running pink noise through the pedal, to my mixer, and from there to Logic Pro. EQ on the mixer is set flat. I'm using the SPAN plug-in for the frequency plot. It is FFT, not RTA.

Regardless, maybe these will be helpful?

They're very helpful.....can we see one with the scoop engaged and the focus ccw, noon and cw....to see exactly what the focus is doing? The Pultech cut/scopp is centered around 200Hz and upper mids from about 2K up are goosed. I have to listen to the demos more closely 'cause cutting at 200-250 is counterintuitive for me in terms of preserving the gut punch/sternal thump part of bass in a mix.

Very helpful! I dig it. I can definitely see what @shoepedals was talking about with the resonance becoming less pronounced as the knob goes clockwise.

Hi!

It's a -12db/octave HPF. It also has a variable resonance as you sweep the filter frequency that gets gradually less resonant when turned to higher frequencies.

We will be adding EQ graphs to the documentation soon. I just need to go take the screenshots from my analyzer first :)

The one I posted labeled "Scoop Switch ON" has Focus fully counterclockwise. I will post the other two shortly

Ok, here they are. Also some plots from my Zerofive Lowrider.

Again caveat that plots from SA (or ZeroFive) might be different!

Thanks...looks like the Focus is indeed a variable freq HPF but it's not a hard shelving cut like a Broughton....a bit more complicated. I'd like to know how people using this find it in a mix. It sounds great solo, but bedroom tone can get lost when the rubber meets the road.

I haven’t tried it yet outside the house. It hasn’t won me over enough yet to make it to either my small (main) board or my larger board. Jury is still out for me.

I *think* I like it, but I’m not sure. The scoop is very pronounced, to my ears, and I can’t really see turning that on at a gig.

That said, there’s a nice interaction between bass, treble, and focus controls that I’m still exploring.

I must have very low output instruments, because even with the grit trimpot maxed I can’t get any grit from the Grit switch, just a clean boost.

I’m going to keep playing with it for a while, and try it at rehearsal next week. We’ll see how it goes.

Hmmm, slightly odd that you're not hearing anything from GRIT toggle with the GAIN maxed. I certainly wouldn't call the Bass ZIO a "fuzz," but the GRIT should be audible when the GAIN is maxed. I just sent you a private message, we'll see if we can't figure out this thing.

the gain trim on mine is very noticeable. i run mine at about 33%. and that's with a passive mustang bass.

Lost my copyright dispute, but figured I could change the pitch down a half-step and avoid whatever algorithm seemed to think I ripped off a terrible drum loop. So far, it posted. Only linking it, because for this one, I just looped 2 bars of Bring Down the Birds and fed it into the board Zio disengaged, then engaged it, then engaged env filter and room reverb, and light compression from UW and Atlas, then engaged the Scoop, then engaged the Grit (gets really overdriven), then no Grit and knobs twiddling to taste. A better sample of what the Zio is doing, I think.

My Zio just arrived this morning and I've spent a half hour trying out the sounds so far. My initial overall impression is that this pedal has some very useable tones. And I love the look and quality feel of the pedal, the pots have a nice feel to them. The gain sweep has more range than expected; I set mine somewhere in the middle and it gives me just the right amount of overdrive I was hoping for.

I was a little concerned that the scoop switch would be too drastic, and give me an unusable sound. Most scoop controls cut out too much mids for my taste, and leave the top end too brittle. However, the Zio scoop to my ears cuts the low mids and boosts the high mids without taking the lows or highs to an extreme. I'm finding the scoop sound to be very useable. I'd almost go as far as to call it a mid shift rather than a scoop.

Also the Zio is slightly smaller than I was expecting based on pictures...so that's a nice surprise.

The only negative I've seen so far is that I do sometimes get a pop in my signal when turning on the grit switch, but doesn't happen every time.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to try the Zio out in a band mix later tonight.
