hehe... thread on Twitter about China being in the lead for rocket launches to orbit by weight, Spacex is second. So of course, Elon acknowledges the truth of that, but then adds:

To be honest, I think starting a space station biosphere at L5 is likely more viable than Mars, but Elon's a might smarter than I. He must've considered it. No resources there, of course, that's the deal breaker I guess. There's a lot riding on whether or not we figure out automatic resource extraction on Mars & asteroids before trying to build an inhabitable station.

Sorry, just idle musings on a relaxed Monday evening. :cigar::wacky::cool:

Gotta say I totally resent the wealth and privilege of people like Elon Musk, but the Starship programme is awesome and it's good that a select few of the world's way-too-many billionaires have the vision to put "their" money into this kind of thing.

Yeah I have mixed feelings about individuals having that much wealth, it's insane. On the other hand, he seems rather different than the rest of them - far more altruistic, willing to spend his life and money for the survival of mankind and Life in general. Unlike, say, "Jeff Who" at Blew Origin, who seems to be an absolute megalomaniac. Who knows, maybe Elon is really Dr. Evil on the inside, but I really don't think so. I think he's being genuine, honestly. I'd sure rather have a benevolent visionary than a power-mad wanker.

Even Bezos and Branson, publicity-seeking egotists that they may well be, are at least in the game... most of the world's billionaires just spend their time being rich. Now where's my beret with the red star...

Yeah, but Hubble's time is sadly coming. Like the article stated, it's had several "comas" in the past couple of years. The two scopes are not entirely interchangeable since they use different wavelengths. Hubble is primarily visible and ultraviolet light and Webb is infrared. Here's an article about that:

Same thing as happened with Tesla and cars - the "competitors" are competing with where Spacex was, they forget about where Spacex is and is going! By 2025, I wouldn't be surprised if crew Starship was starting up...
