Was just watching a thing on Kessler syndrome. Can't wait for the great pacific garbage patch in the sky...
Isn't it already there? IIRC, there are thousands of bits and pieces in various orbits.Probably not too far off.
Also, the "great pacific plastic patch" is not a huge floating island of trash, as many people imagine it. It's microplastics. If you were boating through it, you probably wouldn't even know it was there.

I took a look at a NASA article (below), 'cause I know they track this stuff. They track about 27,000 objects, but that's down to a certain size limit. Adding smaller, untrackable, objects, the amount is over 100 million items.

Sad thing was to me it looked like he panicked and pulled the chute while the engine was still firing, or maybe it just fell off and opened, but that basically doomed him. Sad.
