"Spamalot" pit orchestra gig

Hi Mr. jmlee,
Everything is going swimmingly!
It's actually a little easier to read on my six string, you don't have to change positions nearly as often.
I snuck a couple of friends into the theater to catch the show Saturday night.
But then I went to the box office to pick up their comp tickets. It's one of the band perks. I brought my family to the matinee yesterday. My fourteen year old daughter is a big Monty Python fan.
The stage crew are doing some last minute repair on a set piece. I let them know that they are the unsung heroes of the show. They enable everyone else to do a great job.
Here's the piece all ready to go. Nice work.
This is my favorite piece. I think they did a great job building the wooden rabbit. I think they'd do a great job on a wooden badger too.
This is a shot behind stage left. You see more memorabilia. The lavender piece you see is left over from a production of Peter Pan a couple of years ago.
Here are some cast members getting warmed up for the opening number. Yes, some of the dancers are quite flexible.
Here are the Knights Who Say "Ni". The tall one is almost 8 feet tall.
They put out a very nice program, full color, with lots of pictures.
We've got three more performances this weekend. If you're in the area feel free to catch a show. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. The kids are hilarious with their fake British accents.

Awesome! I just finished my first 3 shows of my first pit orchestra job this past weekend. "Company" by Sondheim. Lots of fun... 3 more shows next weekend.
I finished up Big River at Cypress college yesterday. I'm still tired. 
Next up, I've got The Boys From Syracuse at Cerritos College in May.

Yes, it can be gruelling. But I always have a bit of the post-partum blues whenever I finish a show. I'd like to play a few more throughout the year to supplement my honky-tonk schedule. It's fun stuff.

Oh yeah... Sondheim... I did Assassins a couple of years ago for a Fringe Festival. We did it back to back with Rocky Horror. Two or three shows a night! Assassins was not an easy read - lots of time and key changes... Rocky made up for it!
Ah, Sondheim! Love his work, never done one of his shows. Over many years, hated Camelot and Mame but loved Evita and three runs of Fiddler On The Roof (I'd do another in a heartbeat). All time favorite? Chess.

Makes me want to get out my piano books and dig up West Side Story (Bernstein is a favorite, too)! And Frank Loesser's Guys and Dolls. Those two almost book-end my high school musical acting days. Never played them in a pit, though, sadly.

We had another terrific performance last night. Only two more to go. I played more correct notes last night than any other night.
Here are a couple of shots of the "pit", behind the scrim at the back of the stage.
Before the show the students warm up in the little theater backstage.
This was the first night that I went out front before the doors opened to see the curtain. I think it looks great.
I even climbed up into one of the towers to get a look.

The students built all the sets and made most of the props. Here is the stage crew setting up for the second act.
