Spare time?

How much spare time does bass playing/practice take up for you? Do you have time for other interests or hobbies? Or are you completely immersed into playing so much that you barely have time to eat?

Asking out of curiosity. I have too many interests and hobbies to be able to do just one. However, when I don't play bass because one of them interferes, I get upset with myself that I didn't spend that time on the bass.

Pretty much. My hobbies are all music related.

I build basses, so that takes much of my time, but I'm also disabled, so most of my time is spent sitting wishing I was in the shop.

During that time, I've got a bass within arms reach, and most of time if I'm sitting in front of the tv, there's a bass in my lap.

Every 2-3 months or so I get together with semi-pro buddies for a 3 hour classic rock jam.

The guitarist/singer/keyboardist runs the jam and sends out a song list about 10 days before so I spend a few hours learning/reviewing the the tunes.

We rent a studio with backline so it's easy on everyone. Everyone wears ear plugs.

Much of my Other free time is spent on TB or strumming my 6 string acoustic or Les Paul putting together some originals for home recording.

Before when I was in my last band and we were really going full steam ahead it would eat up pretty much all my free time and especially on weekends with practice and shows I would hardly have time to do much of anything else. Now that I am currently not in a band it allows me more time for other things as well as still getting my music fix on my own.

i play bass... haven't the time for anything else but personal practice which consist of learning a new song or two a week for the cover band im in ...

and one night a week for rehearsal + any gigs we book.

I have taken to reading recently ... it's replaced my cellphone videogame time though.
