Sparse second hand market, help me choose a cabinet.

Hi Talkbass,

I am currently looking for a cabinet to take on tour with my very loud post metal band.

I can only afford second hand right now and in the country im living the second hand market is bad. I had my heart set on an ampeg 810 but they are nowhere to be found and the tour is looming. Here are my choices , any advice would be appreciated, but waiting and saving for an ampeg is not an option.

Genz Benz Uber 410
SWR 4X12
Wca Warwick 411 Pro Bass Cab 410
Marshall MBC 810

What country, and what is on the market? Pretty big deal when availability is the main issue. From those, the SWR sounds best bet, the Marshall MBC are pretty duff. Thing is, they are all of a not middly theme, and strong mids are probably going to be pretty important.

Thanks for the reply,

I am in ireland. And i am partial to a mid type of sound. Any suggestions? Ashdown maybe?

Very loud? Go with the 810. No question. Without knowing exactly which speakers & their Xmax/SPL (although that goes for all the boxes you list), it has the greatest speaker surface area & so will almost certainly have the greatest potential for loudness. Probably even easier to schlep.

What sort of budget? Never rated Ashdown bass cabs, although I use one of their guitar cabs. MAG 15 with a Kappalite 3015 in it makes for a pretty good cab, you'd probably need two of those for your purpose. Shipping from the UK might not be super crazy, opens up a lot of options.

What head are you using, if you have some power, makes things much easier. 8x10s are for weak heads that need lots of speakers.
