Yeah. I didn't realise when I was reading the posts that these guys were referring to 1000 watt amps. I'm running a 100 watt head, and its fine.

If you are going to anguish this much over spending a couple of bucks on the PROPER cables, then keep doing what you are doing.
Maybe you will be lucky, or maybe your amp will suddenly die.
I don't have any money to buy a speaker cable. Some of us aren't rich snobs...
That's pretty offensive. I'm not rich, nor am I a snob, but I use the correct tool for the job, every time.
Make your own then............
All you need is some lamp cord, and a couple of 1/4 ends from some dead instrument cables.
Just make sure you solder the wires correctly. Tip from one end to the tip of the other, then the other wire connecting the sleeve (ground).
P.S. - you could have just stated you didn't currently have the money. The "rich snob" quip was uncalled for, and should have been reported to the mods (but I'll let it slide since your new).

good start, here's more on why you shouldn't use instrument cables for speaker cables in general, it's more than just current carrying capacity.

Yeah, you were being so adamant about it that I was ready to encourage you to just go ahead with using an instrument cable.
Then you'd likely be shelling out for a new amp.

It just struck me while reading this thread, in 30 years I have NEVER bought a speaker cable, I have always just used zip-cord (lamp cord) and whatever 1/4" plugs I had laying around. It was the only way when I was a broke teen. If I didn't make 'em. Now that I am no longer broke, I still can't bring myself to PAY MONEY to have someone elso do such a simple job.
