Speaker cable/wiring question

Hey, this question is not strictly bass related and may be a bit dumb but anyways.. I got an old SWR LA15 speaker lying round that I want to use to make an open-back 1x15 cab to use with my epiphone valve jr for bass, keys or guitar.
I also have an old speaker cable that has a busted jack on one end. Could this cable be used to wire the speaker terminals while keeping the good jack on the other to plug directly into the amp speaker input? Effectively eliminating the need for a back plate on the cab? Or do I HAVE to use speaker wire to wire up the cab?

I appreciate any input!
Cheers
