speaker cant be used with poweramp??

i have two of these speakers the 18inch sub and the 3way top
Invalid Link Removed i got em cheap, but reading the manual it says not too connect them too a power amp only too their own brand amp, could this damage the speakers or is it just so you buy their brand amp? :help:

Hi.

it's marketing. use any amp. If you look on the Fender warranty card it says that Fender strings are needed for "optimum performance" or something similar.

BS. Dangerous BS at that no less. That's a tri-/quad-amp separates active system without the amps nor cross-overs in the cabs.

OP, You had the setup and the needs explained in the another thread about these cabs. Use'em as-is, and You will blow the mid-range and the horn.

Regards
Sam

That's the speakers we were talking about in your other thread. There are no crossovers, the amp that goes with them is a 4channel amp with 1 channel for each speaker, built in crossover, etc. You could either by a 4-way active crossover and 2 poweramps.....build your own passive crossovers to install in the cabs or better yet, go back to the racetrack, pickup the amp made for them and either resell it as a package or put a good pre in front of it.

Edit: They say to only use their amp because of the lack of crossovers. If you plug a regular bass amp or power amp into them, either all the speakers would get a full range signal likely blowing the top 2 or it would only play one of the drivers at a time, again if that ended up being the tweeter or upper mid driver, it'd likely take it out.

Crossovers would be needed, but you should be able to find some easily, although most crossovers are 3-way, but if you don't drive them hard, you may be able to get away with a 3-way and let 2 of the speakers share one signal, but you'd definitely need 2 power amps.

I seem to recall certain Crown amps offering some level of DSP, might be worth looking into.
