Just another note...I know when I play my upright, if I grab the bridge and gently rock it a little bit before I play, that sound opens up. My luthier showed me that years ago. It doesn't do anything if I have been playing even 10-15 minutes, but when the instrument is cold it sounds a little choked. Many upright players will practive with the bow a few minutes before a performance to get the instrument as well as their intonation warmed up.
Having said that, according to responses to date, I MAY be a little bit crazy...

A bad idea all around.
