Speaker experts, please advise

I have a pair of JBL 2-way monitors (Northridge series) that I run with my Rotel amp and also a Mission powered subwoofer. Today I noticed a buzzing/crackling from one monitor that seemed to be associated with sustained low notes, even at moderate or low volumes. When I turned the music volume down and tried very gently pushing the cone in and out to see if I could feel any voice coil rubbing, I could actually hear the sound that I just described. So – driver blown, you reckon? Or something simple like a loose wire in the enclosure? I know, I'm grasping at straws here. :(

First, try it with a different signal source, different amp, etc. to rule out the possibility of a bad amp, dirty pot, etc.

If the noise is still there, then there is a high probability that you have a blown speaker. Unless you bounce these around in the back of a truck or trailer every week, there is almost no probability it is a loose wire.

It was the driver, as suspected. New one, arrived today, working perfectly. Only cost £29 through Harmon Kardon UK (JBL's UK distributor), could have been worse.
