Double Bass Speaker for Clarus head

Hi all,

I've got a Clarus I Series III head on the way, but I'm not sure which direction to go in as far as a speaker is concerned. Kind of an electronic newbie here, don't know that much about the different kinds of gear. I use a FC pickup, most of the gigs I do are fairly small, duos to 5 pieces or so. I'm currently using a SWR WorkingPro 12. I'd like something not TOO heavy, though I'll do a little bit of schlepping if it's worth it in terms of sound. Also, does it matter what impedence cab I get? I'm not that concerned with volume, more about the sound.

The Epifani UL-110 is a pretty good match with the Clarus head. It weighs about 22 lbs.

Wizzy 12 is a nice match for the Clarus head...29 lbs.

Go with a 4 ohm cab, because the Clarus can go down to 2 ohms...basically two 4 ohm cabs. You'll get plenty of volume with just one 4 ohm Wizzy, though.

The prior suggestions are both excellent. I like the Wizzy M-line 12 too.

I also agree with Wizzy 10 or 12. Bigger gigs I use them both together. I also have a EA CLX which is just a bit brighter and works very well. Trouble is it's just a bit too heavy for a worn out crock like me.

I've never had trouble with bottom, it's the sparkle on the top I try to find.

Hey, thanks for the advice!! Obviously I have heard lots of good things about the Wizzy cabs, not so much about the Epifani. I've been playing through a 12 inch speaker for a couple of years now. I've only played through a couple of 10 inch cabs, always felt like there was something missing. But of course they weren't the Wizzy. I'm in no rush so I'll try to play a few before I decide. How close to MA are you? I have the Epi UL-110, Wizzy 12, and Wizzy 10.

Mostly a comparison test. I will probably sell something in the next year or so but I'm not really motivated just yet.

I use a both a Clarus and Focus amp. I love them into a Bergantino 112. I have two of them, and, stacked, they are quite potent. I usually find that one is sufficient for most jazz gigs. I'm trying to get down to Chicago to try out the new Bergie with neo drivers. My old back can use a little help.
