Speaker re cone..

Hi a have a damaged 15" eminence neodymium speaker made for a tech 21 bass amp of mine that wants a re cone. I can't actually see any damage to the speaker but it is constantly distorted even at low volumes. If it does need a re cone kit, which I'd be all too happy to give a go. What might be a good kit to go for?

There are plenty of eminence kits out there,just google it and use part # on speaker. Before you do that,check and make sure your contact wires are not laying against back of cone and check (real good) the dust cover as they come unglued sometimes. These are things that cause noise. I am a speaker repairman. Good luck!

Eminence sells redone kits for their products, unless it is a custom design. Then you have to use a kit from an off the shelf model.

YouTube has some good instructional videos showing you how to redone a speaker. It helps to have a platform that spins. Other than that, all you need is some basic tools and some acetone.

Thanks for the responses, I'm still pondering on what the cause is but when I pull on the voice coil I do notice a bit of sound, hadn't tried that before, only pushing, also if I push on a particular side of the voice coil the distortion goes, so i am still wondering if it can be fixed without a re cone?

It is a deltalite 15" 16 ohm neodymium speaker made for a tech 21 landmark 120. I only seem to be able to find 8 ohm versions of this speaker, but I suspect they would blow?

I would stick with a 16 Ω speaker if that is what your amp is designed to use. According to the manual, an 8 Ω speaker might cause distortion and stress the amp. Maybe Tech21 can repair your speaker. If not they should be able to recommend a suitable replacement.

Failing that, it would be worth it to try to find a local speaker reconer and have them look at it. Sometimes it is simply a bit of debris in the space between the magnet and the coil. In some cases you can remove it. If the coil is bad or the frame is warped you are out of luck.
