Speaker recommendation for 1x12 cab

Did you get any further with this?

I'm looking at a similar 1x12 project so I have the calculators and speaker data pages open at the moment, if you like I could plug in the numbers for yours and see what it looks like.

All the drivers listed are of course different
And will have slightly different tone.

But for the most part . They are all very similar. With how much actual SPL and bass response you will get, Before distortion.
The resonant frequency will be similar for many bass specific 12" drivers.

Basically a 1x12 is a 1x12
These are all 4 to 5 mm xmax drivers.
And will all go in the usual 1.6 to 2.4 cubic feet
Overall performance will be similar for all of them.

If your looking for " more bass" or "deeper bass". Your looking at a driver with a lower resonant frequency. Or a driver that will mechanical work in a larger airspace.

If your looking for more SPL then you simply add more drivers.
If you want more SPL from a single driver. Your looking at more costly drivers with higher xmax in the 6 to 8mm range.

Unfortunately the trade off with longer xmax drivers is higher cost. But Efficiency usually drops as well. So it takes alot more power to reach higher SPL.
Usually once you start to exceed 5mm. The coil inductance will rise significantly to support 6 to 8mm coil lengths. So high end response of the driver tends to drop with higher inductance.

Basically the Fane listed is a very good bass canidate. Likewise the SO2012 and Deltalite
Are good bass drivers as well. All these speakers will sound slightly different. But again for the most part. Will all perform very similar as far as bass response and overall possible SPL. Since they will all go in the same typical airspace and all have a similar resonant frequency and voicecoil length.

Again a 1x12 is a 1x12.
It's pretty common solution to just double the cone area for more SPL and double the voice coils for thermal power handling.
Or basically a 2x12

If you need more than a 1x12

You use a 2x12
Not enough... double again 4x12

Not at all true, there can be great differences between 12" drivers or they can be similar. Note the difference between "can" and "are".

Fs is just one component of a driver's specification, other variables often have a greater effect on performance than Fs.

It's not a generalized discussion though.

I understand your point.

I'm only talking about the 3 or 4 drivers listed in the original post.
They are all fairly straight forward known 12" bass drivers. He's asking for a better performer. And in a nutshell they will all perform relatively equal.

People might have preference to one or the other. By personal opinion.
As far as actual bass response, and overall max SPL will all be very similar.

In this case I'm only talking about the drivers mentioned in the original post.

And yes absolutely 12" drivers can have a vast range of FS.

This case I'm only talking about the bass specific drivers mentioned in the OP

In this case FS is within reason approximately the Same. And likewise sensitivity and xmax all very similar.

I'm sure we could determine the ultimate winner based on opinions. But it's individual opinion. Far as actual max SPL and bass response. They will all be similar

Fair enough.

Just for follow-up, I got rid of Ampeg micro-VR and the two 1x12 cabs.
Got myself an old (v1, USA) Ampeg BA112 and now I hear all the low end I expected for that small package.
Just in case, got also an Ampeg SVT Classic, but don't have a cab yet to use it, nor the back to lift it...
