Speaker Recone Advice

How difficult is it to recone a speaker? I have two JBL 18" speakers that are in need and the recone cost is just not worth doing. I see the kits and even just the voice coil available very reasonably priced so wondering if it's a doable DIY endeavor.

Tips, tricks or pitfalls?

Tagging along. We have a Mackie 18" powered sub that needs a recone. Not sure whether to try and do it myself or buy a new speaker.
