Speaker Sim/DI question

Hey Justin, big fan.

Just wondering what your preference for DI and speaker sims are. I was looking into a pedal preamp/DI to integrate into my setup for use primarily though PA's.

I normally dislike a DI but my band is doing more shows overseas and big fests where I don't have access to my rig. So I'd like something to help me sound great no matter where and what I have to play with.

I use distortion on my bass signal 100% of the time hence my aversion to DI but after hearing some of the tones you got in your time with NIN I have to wonder if there is something I'm missing out on.

Thanks for your time!

DI: Radial JDI for passive, A Designs Reddi or Palmer tube DI for active.

Speaker Sim: Palmer, or go full blown with a Kemper, which I also have and which is currently being used in the NIN camp as well.
