speaker size generalization hits hard

Get a grip. All of us 15" users have to deal with this. Maybe start a support group to help yourself heal.

I've always loved the 2X15 sound... one cab or two, I think they (without the blasted tweeter) have a full "impact-full" sound... I got more [useable] treble out of two Altec 412's than any 4X10 & tweet cab. I used to drive the Altecs with an Acoustic 450, full, loud as I ever needed and for the times, portable (I had it all road cased with big strong wheels!) This was the late '70s early '80s. I now play through a 1X15 and a 1X12 GK NEO cabs driven by a GK 1001 RB II and I'm thinking another 1X15 before the size I have is no longer available.

Yeah it is fiarly potent to say the least. Sounds like someone kicked you right in the guts. Just the way I like it. That and the cab is versitale enough to play everything fiarly well. You can get a good variety of tones by chaning your attack.

It is an old peavey model 3620D rewired with new Blakwidows in it.

Don't worry about it. Do what you do. I've used 2*15s in the past, and it was a fine sound.

Does anyone ask if you're going for the really thin, tinny sound when you use 2 10's? Just wondering. I don't think I've ever had someone comment on my speaker size at all, ever.

I work a lot with a PA , a Renkus-Heinz , it was a CD and two 15" for the top , very nice mids for 15". The sub were 15" too.

The design of the box has more to do than the size of the driver.

Yeah, Geddy used to use only 15's at one point (late 70's early 80's) and his sound didn't fit the 15 stereotype.
I just never had that much success getting the sound I want from 15's except for a Sunn Concert Bass 2x15 with CTS drivers I had back when I was in HS. That cab sounded GOOD.

Brettf, I've noticed also alot of bassists turn their nose's up over 15's, (I think they feel 15's are out-dated.) But, I got to thinking back over lots and lots of years. The bassists that I thought had the best "out front sound" were always using either 15's or 12's. Tens only impressed me out front when there where atleast two 810 cabs running side by side. (This is gonna' get me in trouble), but single 410 or 810 cabs always sounded great to me in the near field but turned to low end rumble at distance.
