speaker suggestion for 115 sealed cab

The basslite 15" and delta 15lf are the best sealed off the shelf drivers I've played with. The 3015lf was ok, but not great.

nice k77, i have a few 15 cabs to that I may be looking to try sealed also, but wonder which models ones anyone has tried for for full-range 15 (non-lf i suppose) to suggest.. would be running another cab (probably ported) with it for the most part. thanx p

cool, however i was asking about the 15 pro because i have one in one side of my 215 mesa diesel cab and am beginning to think by reading that it may be better in a (different) sealed box i am working on, because one member stated a 6-8 cf box is optimal for the d 15pro.

again i use an svt classic or a tb1200, and sometimes for smaller rooms a ampeg V-4

6 to 8 cubic would be for a pair.

The Delta Pro 15 will work in 3 to 4 cubic feet. And a matching pair in a mesa cab would be fine.

The mesa is 3 cubic per driver. The delta pro really shines in 4 cubic. Power handling goes down but the response is flatter less Q

Higher Q is found in 3 cubic and some speakers will sound boomy in smaller boxes. Fortunately the Delta pro doesn't sound boomy in 3 cubic

Yes indeed Delta pro good in sealed and has very high sensitivity and very good high end doesn't sound boomy like most high ebp sound in sealed. Good choice for full range

Unfortunately the Gamma 15 was discontinued from Eminence it worked well in sealed and had slightly more power handling than the Beta 15 which is OK for sealed as well

Faital has few drivers with good efficiency and high end and low Fs all needed parameters for sealed the eminence BP is muddy and lacks efficiency but is good for sealed cause of the low fs and EBP

thanx bogey
and eminece sez sealed is rated at 1.5 - 2 cf
wonder if these are good parameters for bass guitar.. have a few different sized 15 cabs i could try sealing one in...

not for bass instrument use
2cubic would be for a high passed mid bass driver for pa system.
Small airspace would have high Q and common 60 or 80hz high pass would eliminate the high Q response. Its a excellent mid bass driver

To run fullrange for bass instrument the Q would still be high but a good trade off for decent lowend and not be boomy would be the same 3 cubic

The 3015LF is a very good candidate for this application if the crossover is done properly. In particular, that 1.2 kHz peak is an especially nasty-sounding one that should be aggressively suppressed.

In sealed-box configuration the 3015LF can give you a -3 dB point in the upper 60's, which is quite good.

I use pluggable ports, but my woofer isn't as good in sealed-box mode as the 3015LF. Nearly all of my customers leave the plugs out.
duke, how do you make the tuning lower with a vent or pot.. smaller or larger?

You might also consider a rather low-tuned vented box, which can subjectively approximate a sealed box but with deeper extension.

sorry if it a problem that this will be for mainly a 215 and not a 115, although i may seal a single 12 too at a later date!

what is better for sealed will33?
Delta 15pro, EV15L or Force15?
the qts on the delta pro look better than the EV for sealed?
delta pro looks like it want's a super smallish chamber.
the chambers are not divided (yet?) on the cab i am thinking of sealing.

I am thinking of sealing of an old 215 cab i have to run on the bottom with a sealed 212 on top (already have it <smallish cab> w/2 BW 1201's) and my svt CL.
Tried the 212 recently and i think i may like it, didn't seem to pair well with a TL606 styled 215 boogie road ready diesel, was kinda hard to EQ when cranked at a med sized venue.

will try to get the dimensions of the 215 i am eyeballing to use.
am also wondering what to use to reduce internal volume if i need to?

Increasing the vent length (while keeping the same cross-sectional area) will lower the tuning frequency.

And, reducing the vent's cross-sectional area (while keeping the same length) will lower the tuning frequency. You need to reduce the cross-sectional area along the entire length of the port, not just at the end.

If you opt for reducing the vent's cross-sectional area, in theory you will be lowering the chuffing threshold. So I suggest that you try something reversible so you can test it out before committing to it.

cool duke.. i have played with reducing and/or extending lengths of ports/vents.. i recently heard of rice test on here, is that how you see what the freq of the cab and a given speaker is?
appreciate the reply.. didn't know that the whole length of a vent / shelf needed to be altered the same distance to have proper affect..
u rule! p
