Double Bass Speakers? Heads? Combos?

Never been a big fan of the mic into amp thing. I've found it to be more trouble than it's worth.

Yeah, I know, but I'm hooked on it. The mic takes the edge off the pickup sound for me, as others have said. Adds depth, dimension, wood, air, blah blah blah. For me when the volume of the amped sound exceeds the volume of the unamped bass, a pickup by itself just sounds more and more like ass to me, compared to a mic. And a mic thru the amp sounds nice by itself when the conditions are right and I don't need the pickup. I definitely like having that option.

I could definitely see the allure. I just felt like I was messing around with stuff too much. I have a small brain and the part of it that is not thinking about girls and beer needs to focus as much as possible on playing the bass.

*edit - and the for the record I did a gig the other day with my Clarus through my GK MBX112 (ext cab) and it was pretty cool. A little more headroom than just the combo and a more transparent sound. ****, the can of worms is open again. Luckily I have all the different gear that I swap between. Wallet is safe.

Used it last night in a bigger jazz club in South Bend IN and really liked it. That little speaker puts out an impressive amount of sound for a little guy. I did find it to be a little tubby when it gets loud so getting it off the floor and running the HPF at about 75hz fixes it. Nothing new really but new to me.

Is that a BDDI? Knob #2 is the blend or faux tubes, yes? Looks like you have it cranked. That's really gonna shape the sound, cuts mids and honk I'll bet. Obviously, works for you. Just an observation.

Yep. It's an older one. Probably 10+ years old. I thinnk they changed it a little in recent years. It does cut the honk quite a bit. I mostly use that control to take care of honky mids. Every room has a frequency. I find that can really tame strange mids. Definitely works for me.
