I moved to Gresham 6 years ago and I feel like I can breath again. The Portland gentrification I've seen in the past 35 years is off the hook. Even Beaverton is more diverse than Portland now.
I spent my formative years in northeast Portland (Madison H.S.). The area was decidedly lower middle class. Moved to Beaverton in my late teens and loved living in Washington County. I moved to New Mexico in 1990 and have only been back to Oregon a few times. The Portland that I see on the internet is completely unrecognizable and I really don’t know if I would want to return to visit again. I still have a few relatives who live in the area that I talk to regularly. They say that the further away from Portland that you go the more normality returns.
