I got that on a set of DH Jonas Hellborg strings. I called the company about it, and was told the core might have separated form the windings. They sent me a replacement, and the problem was solved.

It happened twice over a period of several years, but each time they replaced the defective piece.

Are the DDT's Steel? Nickel? Both? Don't see much info on them around. I usually use DR Sunbeams and love them, but we tune a half step down, and going back and forth from our "standard" to our "drop D" (Yeah its F# C# G# C# but thats what we call it) the low string can get a bit floppy, which isn't that noticeable, but the tone becomes uneven when in our "drop D" where the low string is noticeably more bassy than the other strings.

So I figured DDT's might be worth a try, and I figured I'd get them from Bass Strings Online since everyone here seems to think it's a good shop but I've never used them. Any advice or info on the DDT's?

I used them(extra heavy gauge 65-125) on my 35" Euro to tune BEAD and it worked, . They are amazing to lock into tune at once and hold it. Tone is a bit deeper than regular SS, but agressive as well. The only bad thing I noticed is that E string didn't fit into a bridge slot so I had to force it to squeeze in and that may result in damaging or twisting the string and poor tone. The rest is ok.

Fellas,
Have any of you compared Rotosounds to DR Low Riders or High Beams tension wise? I have a brand new set of Rotosounds laying around and have been tempted to put them on my Euro but I have a coupon coming for an essentially free set of Low Riders or High Beams and have wanted to check them out. I know Low Riders have a higher tension than the High Beams and I like a loose or looser feeling string. My Euro currently has D'addario 45-100 XL's which aren't bad but are a bit too polite for me. I guess I could be like Lima and do a string test right?

Hey Guys,

I've been thinking GASing for a Spector for a little while now and would like some advice.

What's the general consensus on the Euro Models? They seem to get great reviews, and I like the price vs the US made ones.

Also I see there's both Euro LX's and Euro Rebops. Which would you say has more of the classic Spector tone?

Euro LXs have the P/J configuration, but both the Rebop and Euro have the Tonepump preamp. They both sound great to me. My Rebop is my main bass at the moment, though I'd like to gig my Forte more, haven't gotten round to it yet cuz the Forte was pricey, lol.



As far as strings, anyone else use Elixirs? I love them on my Rebop - it retains the tone and punch for a long, long time.

Quick question about my new Lo Rider strings, i bought medium gauge and they sound great but the D and G strings are a little tight IMO, I'd prefer them to be a little loose, seems easier to play. Is there anything I can do like adjust the bridge or trussrod? I am also wanting to lower my action some. Thanks

If you are GASin for a Spector you came to the right place. :bassist: :hyper:

A Euro LX is an amazing bass. I own a USA Forte and 2 Euro LX's and as I always say; my Forte is a 10 and my Euros would be 9-9.5 out of 10.

A Euro LX will give you the classic Spector tone. A ReBop is a different type of tone.

If budget plays a part in your decision, try to score a used Euro LX.

Good question, I think Sam would be the authority on this.
To me, that's what I like about the Lo Riders the tension is perfect :D....but that's just me. :bassist:

Lo Riders will be tight tension. I love the sound of Lo Riders but the tension drives me crazy.

Hi Beams will will wake up you Euro LX and give lots of growl.

Lo Riders are tight tension strings. Nothing you can really do to adjust that on your bass.

I know exactly what you are experiencing since the D and G strings are the ones that bug me for being too tight, the E and A I am ok with.

If you want to go with something less tension, try Hi Beams, Fat Beams, Blue Steels or EB Slinkys.

Thanks guys! I was leaning toward the LX. I think I'm gonna order one from Musiciansfriend, I just can't decide between amber or natural finish! Lol

Lo Riders are tight tension strings. Nothing you can really do to adjust that on your bass.
