Thank you loend! That was informative and refreshing! Makes my old electronic days get all stirred up and activated again. I love reading info like this that I can relate to and understand. It's like a light bulb switching on in the cobwebs of my brain. Hahaha! :D

Well it looks like my Rex is back in the mix.... checked all my solder joints and replaced the battery.... seems to be ok now.... I have practice on thursday and will see how I'm liking it with the new fridge.

I'm really wanting to use it when we open for Prong on July 8th :bassist:

Not all Spectors have a center detent...it depends on which preamp that's installed I believe. If my memory serves me correctly (anyone with a NS-2A correct me) the NS-2A doesn't have the center detent. Legend 4's don't either.

Not sure about all, but the 3 NS2A's I went through had the center detents.
Have not owned a Legend 4, but both my 6's didn't because one came with a TPjr. (original equipment) and the other came already upgraded with EMG-DC's and a trim TP.

That is so f$&?!n' cool that you're opening for Prong! What could more fitting than the Rex for that show? I'm glad it seems to have worked itself out.

Hey Grendle: how did it work out for the gig a few days ago?

I've been starting to think about selling my shuttle 6.2 head and getting into a GK. I won't sell the cabinets because they're super light and super expensive. Genz uses pretty expensive neos in the new shuttle cabs and they go for about $800 for a 2x10. if I hadn't gotten the whole rig through barter, I'd never have been able to afford it. But the Spectors push the input on the Shuttle a lot and I can barely eq from the bass without clipping the input. Since the 6.2 just came out, I'd probably be able to get a decent price for it and then be able to try out something like the 800mb or something. I loved the Shuttle head before I started with the Spectors, and I still like it in terms of tone, features, weight, etc. and that it's integrated with one of the cabs as a combo is really a great design and provides for a lot of flexibility. But now I'm clipping constantly. I could just eq from the head, but I've been preferring to eq from the bass for almost the whole 25 years I've been playing and to switch now wouldn't work well for me.

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts about any of this (aside from "shut up Steve and stop bothering us" or "clip this")?

Okay guys, so I used my Spector Euro 4LX on my last gig and........... I'm slightly disappointed :crying:

While I love the sound of the TonePump preamp in a solo setting, I've found that it gets lost too easily in a band setting. I'm thinking I need to throw in some sort of preamp that has a mid control/boost that I can use to get the mids in there while also allowing me to crank the bass and treble up high enough to get that snarl that I love. Any suggestions? :bassist:

And don't worry! I have no plans on jumping ship and selling my Spector. The Euro is still the best playing bass I have ever played. It is going NOWHERE!

And trust me, Jaymi - that NS-2J is haunting me! I almost (almost...) considered putting my NS-2 up on the block to get my grubby paws on it. So if Tom ends up with that one, there is an invitation to one of my gigs and one (or a few LOL) beverages of his choice in his future if he brings it along w/ him!

Take a look at the EMG 3-EQ preamp. It's optional on the Euro Wimbish, and it has the mid control you want. btw, did you ever send a pm to tracebassplayer for your club member number?

Are you talking about FOH sound, or the sound from your amp while on stage? Are you going through the PA at all? I go direct through the PA - but my onstage sound is quite mid heavy. I actually turn down the bass and treble a bit and boost the mids so I can hear myself on stage. The sound going to the FOH is up to the PA guy - and the PA handles all the low end. I have three settings on my amp depending on the room/venue. My sound guys know which songs are going to intentionally have more mids - and those songs I go post-eq into the PA.

If your rig does not go through the PA, you have to turn up the mids more anyway for the tone to cut through. It's very difficult to hear yourself if you have a scooped sound. I play with two guitarists and a keyboardist, so the frequency range I have is precious.

I feel your pain... I play with two guitarists, a keyboardist, a sax player AND a drummer who makes John Bonham sound like he used brushes! :help:

Yet I always manage to poke through... my NS-2, run through a Markbass 121P combo (and through the PA, too)mainly set flat with a teeny bit of bump given to the low and/or upper mids (depending on the room). Get compliments in my tone all the time, so I guess people are hearin' something! :)
