The selection is kind of limited, but I'm sure they'll expand. there's enough on there I'm interested in to get me going in any case. I had no idea John Myung did "Pull Me Under" on a fretless. Insane.

Thanks so much for putting this out there John! Very cool app tool. I can see using this for just about anything as they continue to expand the library. For ear players like me, it's heaven.

I'm still leaning towards getting a HAZ for my CR4FM. I have one in my NS2a though. Sam I still need to call ya sometime so you can talk me into it lol!

I'll be using my Ampeg 8x10 this week at practice! Can't wait to hear how it sounds!!!!

OOOOF! That is going to sound killer. See, Ampeg is like a HAZ, you hear it, you love it, you stick to it!

I am keeping it just in case I'll end up buying something that needs an upgrade.
I think the OBP-2 would sound great on a fretless...

Hi folks,
as a Spectorfan without a Spector bass (I wanna buy me one in the future) I have a question:
does one of you have 2 Spectors with identic specs but one bolt-on and one with neck through - and could you describe the difference in sound?

My specs aren't exact but I do have a Euro 5LX and a Rebop 5 with very similar specs and the bolt-on definitely gives it a more punchy sound. Before I changed out the tonepump in my Euro and replaced it with an EMG BQC, Sam (Limaguy) recorded a bunch of clips so you can hear the difference in tone between all of them. My Rebop is tuned down a full step in this clip but you can get an idea of the tone differences,

Ahh cool thanks for the info. Here I was thinking I'd have to buy all the parts to hear the whole song. For some reason I thought they had the whole Images and Words record out for Dream Theater. I'll probably check out Pull Me Under at least. Used to play that out in a Queensryche tribute of all bands years back and it's always a good exercise. Curious to hear how far off I was in a couple spots.

No, luckily that is not the case. If it was, I wouldn't have bought any tracks to be honest since I think that would be way too expensive. From the e-mail I received though, they will be releasing more tracks from the "Images and Words" record it seems. This is what the text said:

+1 I've used D'addarios on my Spector before (which sounded pretty good), but I find that the Sunbeams add a little more "sweetness" to the tone. The slightly lower tension feels nicer to me too.

Yeah, i agree. The selection is definitely limited but I have to say that the library has almost doubled in the last month so they are definitely adding tracks at a fast rate.

The cool thing is, they had a vote on their Facebook page asking which band everyone would like tracks from so they are definitely listening to suggestions. I wish AC/DC hadn't won though since those bass lines are pretty basic but I guess I need to understand that not everyone is a bass player

Agreed! I have the OBP-3 matched with EMG Jazz pups in the NS-5H2 fretless I ordered. It can't get here soon enough!

I am a big fan of the Aguilar OBP's! They are my go to on board pre! ...I still have yet to try a HAZ tho!

YEP!! I recorded some tunes for a few ensembles I played in during my college days (Salsa and Steel pan bands). I went to a school that has a pretty big recording production and technology dept. The sessions were engineered by two of the more well respected professors in the dept. I lugged my SVT-3 pro and 4x10HLF rig into the studio only for him to tell me I was playing into a U5. I had never used one before, but it made my Spector Legend 4 sound like a million bucks!! Ever since, I tend to prefer that DI/pre in the studio setting!

Once I convince my roommate to let me turn our extra room into a home studio, I plan on buying one!

So after taking about a month long break after leaving my band for a few different reasons, yesterday an old guitarist of mine asked me to try out for their band. They're playing shows every month which I'd be really excited about and the I'm really into all of the music they've showed me so far. My bass needs a good setup and a good set of strings (Playing a Euro 5LX in drop A) and I think I'll be good to go. I was a little rusty when I jammed with him yesterday, but I'm feeling a lot better today. I've already learned one of the songs and am working on the second one now.

Is anyone else tuning down to drop A? What strings are you using?

I'll be interested to hear your results. I'm assuming this means you'll be tuning AEADG, yes?

I was dropping A here and there on my Euro 5LX with Lo-Rider Nickels on there (45-130) and I thought the tension was pretty good. if you want to go heavier than 130 there's a chance you'll have to file out the bridge to accommodate the thick winding of the string at the ball end.

I tried the DR DDT strings on another 35" scale bass and I did not like them at all. Very dull sounding.

D'Addario makes a 145 B but you for sure would have to make room for that winding to get into the bridge.

I have my Rebop 5 tuned down a whole step and ordered a custom set of D'Addarrio nickels from Bassstringsonline.com. I am using a .145 as my B string, a .110 as my E string, .85 as my A string, .60 as my D string, and a .50 as my G string. Anything less than the .145 and the B string would get a bit too floppy for my taste and also realize you will need to file down the nut a bit to accommodate the larger string.

I would have to crimp all my B strings on my CRFM, until I bought elixirs with a tapered B. I'm wondering if the taper could somehow affect the sustain...

I wouldn't think so as long as the string is making full contact on the bridge saddle and string nut.

I am using tapered strings on both of my USA Spector's so I really haven't had the chance to try it out yet. Only the NS-5XL has a Spector bridge though since the NS-JH5 has a Hipshot B style bridge.

That's cool. How do you like the Hipshot B style bridge in comparison to a solid brass Spector bridge? Pros/cons?

Not on my Euro. I've used them (and do use them) on my MIA P, but on my Euro? I dunno... Could be fun though!

You know, I've noticed on my Spectors with the brass nuts that once I tune they go a little sharp on their own. Two different basses (CRFM and a Euro) and two different types of strings (Hi Beams and Sadowsky Blacks). Is that due to friction on the brass bridges? Anyone else experience this?

Only when I am not using GHS Precision SS FW strings. And only when my bass has sat for a long period like over night.

They make this stuff.....no joke...Big Bends Nut Sauce....also on brass a little graphite powder from a hardware store can fix that problem.
