That's what I was thinking. I wanted to do it this year but I needed to get a whole extraction/implant thing done on one of my teeth, and that is going to cost me out of pocket almost as much as I would need for the NS-2. :mad:

I am tempted to sell off the NS-5XL I got earlier this year on here so finance it but I get so attached. Since that one is blue, I'm either going to move it and go with the blue black stain or keep it and go violet.

One the whole preamp debate, I personally stand by my theory that if you can't afford the 9v USA, the EMG BQC is a better option. It doesn't hiss on the high end (in fact, there's no noise anywhere at all), the center frequency of the treble control treble is adjustable to 4 different freq. centers, and the sweepable mid control frequency selection with the ability to boost or cut whatever you select is a fantastic capability to have on board any bass. With the almost entirely solderless install, it's easy and $139ish compared to $350 (before shipping) is hard to beat.

If I could afford it, I'd have a 9v USA circuit in every 4 I will end up owning, which is three of them, all Euros. That is THE tone I want most of all without compromise. But since I can't afford $1,050 in preamps (and that's before shipping charges and installation which will also consist of drilling out/widening my control knob holes) I'm left with limited options because nothing can 100% emulate the US 9v pre. The EMG BQC is the only thing I've played that comes close, and that's because of the hugely flexible mid control. And in a financial crunch, I'll have to settle for "close." But if you can afford it - the 9v USA pre is the way to go if you want the full-on, genuine, no-compromises Spector tone experience.

What I am thankful for is that these basses (ReBops, Euro LXs) are so much like their USA counter parts in terms of construction materials and build quality and also that they sound so good in their own right. This makes it possible to use almost any preamp that's compatible with the EMGs and it's going to sound good (the exception being the OBP-1 in my opinion). But there's no getting around the fact that the full Spector tone experience comes from the US circuits. I just wish they were more affordable. And if my Forte swap had come through, I would have invested in one for it just to have one fully USA-made Spector that sounded like a USA Spector should.

I am also thankful that there are great sounding options that translate the Spector tone so very well, if not exactly like the USA pre, with the BQC being the closest I've heard, the Aguilar OBP-2 and 3 being a close second.

I know, I know. And like I said - when the Wimbish necked LX comes, I will give it a fair shake and sit with it for a while to see if I just missed something earlier.

I do wonder when that thing is gonna show...

I think that bass will kill with any preamp. To be fair I've only ever tried the EMG BT preamp and I didn't like it. The BQC has always intrigued me...

Mike Kroeger from Nickelback uses all passive basses and they sound great! so I think it is more about the bass than the electronics.

Must be random. There's one on Amazon that's black plastic. And there are some on BC's site that have black plastic too. I guess it's just random one-offs or mistakes or they just didn't have enough brass on hand to finish up that particular bass. Although I can tell you if I ordered a Euro and it showed up without a brass nut, I'd be calling the NY shop to see if they'd put one on for me under warranty or I'd just flat out return it. The brass nut is a key to how good the open strings sound.

Agreed. I've had a couple guys, including my guitar shop guy if 15 years question the brass nut, but I can hear the difference. Since my shop guy basically refused to use his files on the brass nut I've pretty much stopped going as it forced me to do the work myself.

I don't think that is plastic because it is very tough, when you file it, dust is the result.

I think they saved on weight because the neck is fairly thin, front to back, on mine. Thinnest I've had on a 5r. Love it though!
