Personally I do like the looks of the Euro faux Forte you have there Steve..........the kinda grey fade color.........its almost like old school stonewashing or acid washing of black jeans.........LOL. I happen to like the subdued looks, I think it actually is appealing.....having owned alot of coffe table top basses in the past..........keep it simple........it's cool! :cool:

Don't deny your Forte it's true heart, the heart that was meant to be in it. :)

These recordings Sam does are incredible but they cannot capture what that pre does live.....the nuances, the grit, the growl. You'll never hear the full picture (can you hear a picture?) until your finger hits the string. My 2.

One the whole preamp debate, I personally stand by my theory that if you can't afford the 9v USA, the EMG BQC is a better option. It doesn't hiss on the high end (in fact, there's no noise anywhere at all), the center frequency of the treble control treble is adjustable to 4 different freq. centers, and the sweepable mid control frequency selection with the ability to boost or cut whatever you select is a fantastic capability to have on board any bass. With the almost entirely solderless install, it's easy and $139ish compared to $350 (before shipping) is hard to beat.

If I could afford it, I'd have a 9v USA circuit in every 4 I will end up owning, which is three of them, all Euros. That is THE tone I want most of all without compromise. But since I can't afford $1,050 in preamps (and that's before shipping charges and installation which will also consist of drilling out/widening my control knob holes) I'm left with limited options because nothing can 100% emulate the US 9v pre. The EMG BQC is the only thing I've played that comes close, and that's because of the hugely flexible mid control. And in a financial crunch, I'll have to settle for "close." But if you can afford it - the 9v USA pre is the way to go if you want the full-on, genuine, no-compromises Spector tone experience.

What I am thankful for is that these basses (ReBops, Euro LXs) are so much like their USA counter parts in terms of construction materials and build quality and also that they sound so good in their own right. This makes it possible to use almost any preamp that's compatible with the EMGs and it's going to sound good (the exception being the OBP-1 in my opinion). But there's no getting around the fact that the full Spector tone experience comes from the US circuits. I just wish they were more affordable. And if my Forte swap had come through, I would have invested in one for it just to have one fully USA-made Spector that sounded like a USA Spector should.

I am also thankful that there are great sounding options that translate the Spector tone so very well, if not exactly like the USA pre, with the BQC being the closest I've heard, the Aguilar OBP-2 and 3 being a close second.

I agree 110% with this statement! I am always amazed at the build quality of the Euro line in comparison to the US basses! They are both fantastic in their own right!

I will one day own an NS-2 of some sort...even if its a forte with the US 9v circuit...because that is just the sound I like! But, I am happy playing on the euro's just as much!

Obviously the USA 9v is most common in 4 string Spectors. I'm not sure if we have anyone here with one in a 5'er.

Since the USA 9v was designed for a 4-string, I'm curious if a low B sounds good through it. I don't see why it wouldn't, but I also have to believe there's a reason Stuart went with the 18v for the NS5's and NS6's.

I have one in my Ns2a tuned to C and it sounds sick!!! I actually recorded a song in drop B as well and it sounds awesome!!!!

Sweet! I am probably going to order a custom NS-2 in the next year and I will be getting it setup BEAD. I'm hoping I can get them to do a 35" scale but I haven't heard of that being done before so I don't know. I thought I read recently about something getting a US 5-string in 34" scale so hopefully that's a good sign.

Since they send all Euro necks from the US and you can get a 35" Euro 4, I can't imagine they'd have any trouble customizing a US MS-2 for you with a 35" scale.
