I noticed the headstock says Stuart Spector design instead of the regular Spector logo. Around what year were these being made?

Those were made between 1999 and 2001. I really like those since they have solid maple wings and solid brass bridge (like what the USA models have.) Do you know what pre is in the bass? It also has the EMG DC pickups which I am a huge fan of and the newer Euro LX models have the TW pickups.[/DEL]

That is most likely from 1994-1998 and the model would be a NS5-CR which was 34" scale back then.

That is most likely from 1994-1998.

oh cool. The knobs say EMG on them so i think it might be the preamps that come with EMG's.

i had a hard time seeing. dark it was.

I played a lot of dark stages, coupled with sheet music stands with lights caused my neck to silhouette and look like a black stick when I looked at it.
So in 1983 I had a Moonstone with position lights built that I received in 84 and the neck looked like the below picture.
It was actually fiber optic that had a single lamp in the control cavity and it was bright.
I was going to build an Alembic but they used LEDS at the time and I was concerned about replacement should one fail so I choose Moonstone, problem solved.

I sold it earlier this year to a collector, unbeknownst to me was it is one of the last ones Owner Steve Helgeson personally built himself. (Shop workers now build them)
The guy that bought it is friends with Helgeson and the first thing he did was to take it back to him and ask him if he remembered it. He said absolutely and wanted to know why I sold it, I told him it was because I no longer played 4 string and had not for years.
The bass in now in a climate controlled vault never to be played again. (the bass is pristine)
The inlay contains 300 pieces of Mother of Pearl and Abalone and is all hand done. People that do this type of inlay work amaze me, I looked at it under a magnifying glass and it is flawless. Inlay was a 1000 dollar option in 1983

Well, looks like I'll be joining the Spector club in a month or so.

Just put my order in for a Euro 5 LX, matt black with chrome hardware and no inlays.

I can't wait to get it! Of course there will be pics asaigi.

I'd say like folky rock. Really hard to classify IMO. I'll post a song or two later and you guys see what you think. Bit of a different cup of tea than my norm. I'm up for a different flavor though.

Here are some sound clips from a bunch of the Spectors I have owned.

I recorded the NS-2 and Forte with the 9V USA so I could hear the comparison of them to the rest.

Not a "perfect test" since the basses on the older recordings have different strings on them but you get the idea.

I am thinking it might be an EMG BT circuit but you never know. Are any of the knobs stacked by chance?

The BQC I have in my Euro 5LX has the EMG knobs and the BQC I am about to put in my NS-JH5 has those knobs as well. I personally think they are really cool looking and prefer them to the knobs that come with the tone pump since they seem to be made a bit better.

You have to remember this is 1983, quilt was extremely rare then. I put the strap button on the back of the neck and it's easy to see why.

It was at that time for sure, this bass has less than 10 hours play time and by the time I received it (1 year or so) I had moved almost exclusively to fretless.
