Here are some pics of #1925 the Double boxed bass right before shipping to Baltimore. Chrome hardware installed. Really excited to see the finished bass![]()
Can't wait either Mike. Did someone black out the board?
OK sound comparison time - let me know what you guys think sounds better.
I was going to do the guessing game thing but a couple things weren't equal so I didn't want to skew the results.
Track 1 is the Kramer NS-2 with Rotosound Drop Zones.
Track 2 is the Euro 435 (matte) with CK's.
Both are setup BEAD. I was trying to EQ both the same way from the bass but I probably could have used more bass on the 435. The signal path is bass -> Avalon U5 (tone setting 2) active thru to -> Sansamp RBI -> RME interface. The U5 and RBI go to separate tracks and one is phase inverted.

I prefer track 1 with the ns-2. Its rounder and more pleasing to my ears. You are right about the 435.....it could use a little more EQing........nice little run though Andrew!
That is a cool little ditty bunk!
Added the first coat of tung-oil to the Legend body today and I am happy with the way it is turning out. It ending up to be a unique color so far. We'll see how it looks after a few more coats. I think 6-7 coats of tung-oil should do the trick. The first coat really made the grain pop.

I'll have to redo that 435 track and try to EQ it closer. I do think the 435 really gets in the neighborhood of the same sound.

I think I like....
2. 3. 1.
1 and 3 were hard to decide for me.
Is one of the preamps worth $250 more?
Keep in mind its a unscientific test. I adjusted the tone knobs on the test to what ever made the bass sound good at the time. I didn't try to match them with each other. All basses have DR lo rider steels, one of them is .105-.45 the other two are .100-.40. The wood seems noticeably on each bass.
No processing on any bass. Just straight in the computer.
