Well, the used NS-2 is here at last. It's in rougher shape than I expected, and as for the tone,it has more distortion when fully cranked than I expected. For those in the know, please look at the pre & tell me if it is a genuine Spector USA 9-volt HAZ. I'm going to buff the nut & frets, change the battery, string it with my D'Addario ProSteels and do some scrubbing & cleaning. More to follow...
I am pretty sure that is a genuine Spector USA 9-volt circuit.
The board is yellow, but it is a 2004, they may have used that color board back then.
Year to year there always seems to be slight changes in the circuit. Below is a 2008 vs a 2012.
When you say "it has more distortion when fully cranked than I expected" Do you have the vol, bass and treble fully open?
The 9V USA can be really aggressive that way, it may be normal, but also can be a bad pot.
Do you hear any pot scratching or dirt when you turn them? It may just need a replacement pot which they do sell through the Spector Store. Invalid Link Removed

Free stuff is always good. The Studio One comes with loop libraries like Uberschall Impact Drums, and a buch of stuff. Here is a screen shot of some of the stuff it has in the browser window.

wow, have a few offers already. I should have also stated it comes with choice of 35 p/j's or dc's, vol /vol trimpot tonepump, gold or black hardware, spector hard case, and a strap.
Man your not kidding! I thought the NA-2A's were a well kept secret or best bang for the buck but I like this NS-2000/5 better yet!
My Sunday morning service gig went great! Our soundboard tech said that my new bass was incredible! He loves both my Coda and the NS-2000/5. He said the NS sit in the mix just right for yesterday as the music was more slow and methodical because of the Lent season. And he's a music teacher from our local school. I use him for my sounding board.
Yeah the 20005 is a real beast, combo of 35" scale for great B tension, and the EMG pre actually sounds great with the Hz's, properly articulate to make the B shine just as well as the other strings.
So far my NS20005 is the only 5 I've played that had a B that felt and sounded as good as the other strings, however I'm sure the more expensive Spectors do it too, I haven't the wallet for them!
O.K. folks. I polished the nut & frets, re-strung it, changed the battery and gave it a good cleaning & set-up (including lowering the pickups). The tuners cleaned up enough to where I will most likely keep them, but not to worry Jeff - the nasty-ass bridge is definitely getting replaced. Sorry Sam - I don't have the gear to post sound clips (still stuck in the Jurassic multi-track era), but I wish I did...
New strings, battery change and pickup adjustment made a huge difference.
It barks, it snarls - it growls like a friggin' beast! This one sounds killer, and it is a keeper.

Thanks - that's what hooked me. Other than the peghead nicks & crusty bridge, it's in great shape. The finish on the neck & body is very clean, and I think a new bridge will improve it's looks 100%.
