I have one of these and also the Blacksmith and an RS210 and RS212. Very nice little amp. Quite a bit of controversy on TB about their power ratings though. I'm going to sell the Blacksmith as it's just too much for anything I'll do. The RH450 at the moment is in my silent practice room. It's great with my GB-10 and headphones for learning and practicing. I currently use a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 with the 210 & 212 when I play. The Shuttle is also a nice little amp (4lb.!) and sits on the 210 & 212 for a nice small but powerful package on stage.

I have heard the stories about the power ratings but this is mainly going to be used in my office so I don't need anything crazy.

Currently, I have a Hartke LH-1000 which is way too powerful and overkill for what I need so I think this will be much better for me. I couldn't pass the deal up for the Hartke though so I am not kicking myself for buying it but I just need to be able to run an amp at a better volume. Plus, I love the features on this TC and the headphone jack will really come in handy for silent playing like you are doing.

Hey guys, so I've come to the conclusion that the Aguilar OBP-3 is my favorite preamp of the ones I have tried. I'm thinking about pulling the EMG BQC and replacing it. My questions are:

1) does anyone know how the OBP-3 sounds with EMG PJ pups in a EURO?
2) I've never tried a Spector pre, how does the US18V sound with EMG PJs?

They are about the same cost, so I need to figure out pros and cons of each.

You would probably need a bigger head stock if you want to do that If you notice, the head stock on that Zon is much bigger so it can accommodate all of the Xtenders.

This probably seems like a tiny little amp compared to some of the big rigs you guys are running but I just picked up one of these. It looks like a really cool amp and I am obsessed with the tone Nick Beggs gets with his Euron on that Steven Wilson Blu-Ray from Mexico. Plus, they are giving me the foot pedal for free which is normally $150 so I couldn't pass that deal up.

When I was looking for a replacement for my 400+ I thought this was the best sounding of the micro heads and it gave me the best tube tone. I play through Fatial Pro speakers so they don't break up as fast as others so the head can make a big difference. The wattage rating is not what it says but the head can get really loud and that's all that matters really??? The 750 is only a little more wattage but offers more head room. If you have a PA and a mic'd cab, how much wattage do you really need? I decided to go with Jule's Monique so I could push the preamp and control the volume with a Class D, kind of like a attenutor, and the response is faster than any of the pre's I have tried in the past, which totally killed my amp GAS forever, but the TC was the next choice. my understanding was that the Spector 18 volt circuit was designed around the or specifically for the EMG DC's/humbuckers, as EMG says they perform best at 18 volts. I have one in my Euro with DC's. Now......that is not to say that it wont work wit hthe p/j config. I would stick with the OBP-3.....I KNOW it sounds good with p/j config.......even at 18 volts, its slightly more versatile.........

Jamie's right, another good thing about the 18v is, on a 5 string it really help clean up the low B no matter what combo you go with. A non DC 4 string IMO would be better with the OBP-3. I'm a big 18v fan too, sounds great in my Rebop 5.

Very cool. I know you guys are all really serious with the amps you buy so hearing good things from both you and Lee are making feel less depressed about shelling out the money I just keep hearing more and more good things so I can't wait to get it now and the tube tone is definitely one of the features I am looking forward to with this head.

I was actually thinking about getting one of the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes pedals but I am hoping I can maybe get away with using the tube tone feature of this head to get me where I want. I know it won't do as much as that pedal does but all I really was looking for in that pedal was to get close to that old Ampeg SVT tube overdrive so I can see how this head will handle it.

From the looks of it also, I might even be able to sell my tuner since the one on this head looks really good and after watching a few of the Youtube video's, I couldn't believe how fast it tracks.

Thanks for the feedback. I sent an email to Best Bass Gear to get a quote on the correct OBP-3, pre-wired, so I can hopefully install it myself. I want the knob functions to be the same as my NS-4H2. I'll be selling the BQC if I go through with it, if anyone wants to give that pre a try.

I've been rockin this head and the RH750 for 3 or 4 years now. You will not be sorry!!

I think this is due in part to some of the the TB community regarding class-D power amps as somehow inferior.
I have an SWR Headlite that serves triple-duty as a Taurus pedal amp for mid to large size gigs, a bass amp for smaller gigs, and a home & travel practice/recording amp.
I find class-D amps to be great sounding (especially the ones with a nice tube preamp), lightweight bass amps for a variety of situations, but don't push them to their limit & still expect any great reserve of clean headroom.
The TC does, however, have a much higher rated output than my SWR. It should serve you well.
