Thanks! I just got done playing a few songs on the 6. Almost brought a tear to my, literally. I love that 18v with the DC's.

Yeah my understanding is the Ian Hill has a thinner neck profile which was made to match Ian's original 80's NS-2 - someone please correct me if I am wrong. It's a noticeable difference from that to say the matte black one I sold to you.

Question for my Spector brothers. Who introduced you to Spectors ? Was it your favorite bass player ? For me it would have been the late 80s, I remmeber seeing Rachel Bolan of SkidRow with his white NS 2 in the Youth Gone Wild video. After all these year I finally got my first (and second) Spector this year. No white one though....yet.

Yeah, the matte black has a really chunky neck. My natural is thinner than it, but I'd imagine this one most of all.

As an '80s metal fan myself, I recall many prominent players of that era using NS-2 basses. The player that did it for me was Eddie Jackson of Queensryche - his tone is still one of my favorites, and my current tone is very close, with a touch less grit & a bit more high end sparkle.

Others that caught my eyes & ears with their Spectors included the bassists for Savatage, Extreme, Skid Row, Alice In Chains, The Police - the list goes on...
And yes, Eddie is the reason I own a white Spector. :D

I'm having trouble with my Rebop. IMO, it just doesn't sound very clear when I use it live. I am getting punch and lots of low end when I want it, but it does not sound clear. My wife said the bass sounded distorted today. y battery is not dead. I am using a Crate BX-100, a very loud and powerful amp with a good graphic eq, a 15"
speaker with a ported cab, but no tweeter.

This exactly. Also, Dream Theater's Images and Words used an NS-2 for a lot of tracks and I remember like Myung's sound too.

I am curious and forgot to ask you in the PM: What was the original finish? It certainly looks natural in the video. Or do you just mean the hard (non-oil) gloss finish?

Well just got done having a conversation with Mike Inez AIC and he told me he plays his only owned Spector NS2 every night for the drop d songs he sez its red sunburst with his name on the back from Stuart Spector woodstock custom. So he does still use em regularly . Just watched the 2010 Sonisphere festival and it sounded sick.

Should contact Spector and give them the serial number, find out what year it is and that will determine the preamp. You could also open up the control cavity and take a quick picture and post it.

The Non Trim TonePump (look it up compared to the trim version) which is probably what your bass will have in it is a very high output preamp. When I dime the controls on my bass (especially the bass knob, and sometimes the pickups) my sound gets distorted. I have to compensate by setting the tone good on my bass and using the amps power to get my sound out. It's just what sounds the best.

You may also have one of the Aguilar Pre's and someone else I'm sure will chime in as I have no experience with them.

Thanks, I have a TonePump, I opened it up and turned down the trim. The output is lower and it seems clearer.

Tone pump preamps are really hot. If you have the trim pot, you can fix it there. I don't, so I use the pad switch on my amp, and run volumes a bit under full, highs maxed, and bass about half.
I also have 2 Spectors with emg preamps, and don' t need the pad for them. ( I use an Aguiler TH500) I'm thinking of switching to an Aguilar OBP3 on the rebop. If you really like the tone pump other than the hot signal consider a new tone pump from Spector with the trim pot. Only $99.- a good deal I that's the sound you want! And spector is a great company to deal with!


Edit: I see DID beat me to it- glad to see you have the trim pot version!

I know it's cheesy, but I had "the slap bass program" video when I was a kid. I thought that was the coolest bass I've ever seen. Because of that NS shape.

This is so basic! I don't know why I didn't check for a trim pot on the preamp myself. I think this is the final step in me really taking a liking to this bass. :bassist:

I saw my first Spector NS-2 In a gear review in Circus magazine. It was love at first sight. I played my first NS 2 In my local music store and the obsession began! I finally purchased one in 1991 from Corner Music in Nashville(gloss quilt)Lost it in 1994 to alcohol drugs and depression. In 2010 I bought a 1987 White NS 2 when I was four years sober:bassist:
