Sony (Sonic Foundry) SoundForge Pro 10

I've found that SoungForge is as powerful as ProTools, more affordable and I can run it on my i7 - 6-core Windows 64 bit system... and not have to use Macs anymore.

I've been using Cakewalk Sonar for over a decade. I went with it because it was one of the few software hosts that was written specifically for Windows instead of being a port.

I've always had pretty good luck with it. In the past few years stuff like Reaper and Studio One have come out which I believe are pretty Windows friendly as well.

Now, what do you use for bringing audio/midi into your USB port? For my dedicated sampler I'm using the PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL. Is there anything better?

Mine is not USB. It uses its own PCI card to connect with a Firewire-like cable. Made by RME.

From I what I can see that PreSonus looks like a decent box. As long as you're getting latency that works for you, I wouldn't see a need for a change unless you want more physical inputs.

Studio one is that presonus program ? I'm Looking at picking up a presonus 24.4.2 console for my future home studio. And I'm such a noob at it that I'm hoping its as easy as they say.

Yeah I think PreSonus makes that.

I wonder how many guys record Spectors even if they can't gig them for other reasons.

I have heard that a lot of studios have Spector basses available for use.....even if a bassist has been signed to get pictured with something else!

I have the 16.4.2 and I love it, It is really easy to use. Just read through the manual and watch some of the Presonus tutorials and you'll be set. I like the 16.4.2 and you can chain it with 1818 for even more channels and would cost much less than the 24 (just an idea). I haven't needed more than 16 at one time.

I was setting up a fill-in drummer for a July date who recorded in Nashville and he also told me that the studios have Spectors available and he said some of the best Country recordings are Spector basses....he took the booking when he found out I will use my NS2

This is good news. Back in the day Nashville was so entrenched in using Fender basses for recording players always had to own one just in case.

I use a Behringer Guitar Audio input. It's a 1/4 plug to USB interface. It allows for high or low impedance signal input with little line noise. Very clean.

Then from there I can capture the signal with any number of programs. If I run through Guitar Rig's interface I can model the tone any way I want.

Awesome! Thanks for posting Sam! I've never care for the exposed core steel strings they had, but it sounds like the "slight taper" alludes to more wraps than the previous steels.

Please tell me that's your NS-2 on the art!

And to my surprise, my #800 NS-2 was selected as the front photo on the 4 string package.

I just confirmed with PJ they will be available in 2 weeks and they were actually on this #603 bass when I played it when I was with him in Woodstock. And they felt and sounded great
