SPECTOR® Club - Part 62

Two questions...

1. How do I acquire a membership number? I've been a Spector artist for a few years and haven't gotten around to getting one yet.

2. A Spector I've been GAS'ing for has just become available, so I'm selling two from my current stable to help fund its purchase. Anyone interested?

Talk to Todd, I bet he could get that hooked up.

NS2A=2 LegendX=0

Thanks again for the recommendation, man, he's hooking me up big time! We're talking NS5H2 now, I was thinking gloss finish but I may end up going for the matte as I'm really liking that so far. I think I've decided on the OBP-3 with the EMG 40P/J's as I was planning on throwing those pickups in my Euro to replace the DC's I have in there.

I'm thinking now I'll keep the DC's in my Euro, and swap out the non trim TP that's been cutting it so far, but I think I'd much prefer a trim TP or the OBP-3 in the Euro also if I end up liking the mid control. I just can't decide on gold or black hardware. I had my mind set on gold for my Rebop 5 I was planning on ordering, but I do really like the black, also. I figure at least with the hardware I can always do a swap if I want to throw the gold hardware on.

Bunks USA builds really helped me set my mind on a USA Spector. I know I really wanted that custom Rebop 5, but I know the USA wouldn't be happening like this if I would've placed my order so I'm actually quite thankful I ended up holding off!

Glad I could help! :D

40P/J with the OBP-3 should be very nice.

Hey guys,

So some of you may remember that I bought an old Brooklyn era NS-2 on ebay a little while back. It is a killer bass but unfortunately it was missing the original preamp and the original pickups.

Here's a quick pic:

I got a bunch of parts in for my electronics revamp and I need help deciding which to try out first.

The pickups will be a set of old cream PAF Dimarzio P/J pickups in both setups as this is what the bass would have had originally.

As you can see, The two original mini switches are there, but currently non functional. Their original functions would have been active/passive and a phase switch for the neck pickup.

Now I'm pretty good with wiring but not an expert, so based on what I figured out and the parts that I have available to me I settled on two options.

Option 1 is adding a MM114 HAZ copy so the controls will be V/Bl/B/T and the mini switches will act as phase switches for each pickup. I couldn't figure out how to have a preamp bypass switch with this preamp as its all circuit board mounted components.

Option 2 is going with a Tone Pump (w/ trim) preamp but also wiring it V/BL/B/T and getting those mini switches to act as an active/passive, and Phase switch for the neck pickup, like they would have originally been.

Option 1 is nice because it will probably sound closer to what the bass would have sounded like in it's hey day, but I lose the active/passive switch which I would like.

Option 2 is nice because from what I've heard from Limaguys sound clips I actually really liked the more open tone of the tonepump! (Ive never played a Spector with one, only US Haz models, crazy I know.) AND I also get the switch back to the original functions which I like.

I'll likely try both options out, but I don't know which to try first! lol

Anyway here's a quick little diagram I made up of both ideas.

What would you guys do?

My vote is the MM114, I have the same pickups and preamp in my NS-2A and its nice and growly, love the tone, cuts and cuts through

I had the Tonepump in my NS2A for a few months then switched to my MM114. The MM114 is still in it but the TP sounded awesome as well. The TP is now going in my Legend 5. FYI my NS2A has active EMGs.

You are welcome any time. We always have a good selection of cool Spector's USA and imports in stock. If you go to my SpectorWorld.com site and see anything from my personal collection you would like to see in person I will make sure it is there. Just give me a day ahead notice.

See?... What more could you ask for. :bassist: There's a NS-5 in stock you might want to check out. And his collection?... to die for. Just wish I lived closer.

I'm going to be in Tulsa in January. Long way off, but definitely going to plan a visit to your store Todd!
