SPECTOR® Club - Part 63

Surprisingly, the width doesn't bother me all that much. I may try those instructional videos that John suggested a few pages back to get my hands in better shape for the longer scale.

I was really surprised how much they helped me out. I originally only played 5 strings but decided to go back to basics for a while and pretty much only played 4 strings for like 2 months and boy did I notice it when I whipped out the NS-5 again. I do the 1 finger per fret method though so others might have different results than me.

I am at the point where I don't even turn on the DVD and just do the exercises with a metronome. My first half hour to 45 minutes of practice time is spent doing these exercises and once I get them down clean, I increase the tempo and boy does that warm your hands up for any practicing after that. I have also been playing both a 4 string and a 5 string in my practice time as well so I get the feel of both in my hands.

These work for me but obviously, everyone does things differently so you can always change things around to suit your style and practice time better. Just trying to help others out since I saw really good results from this. I work from home so I am lucky enough to be able to play in between meetings (and sometimes on them too, lol) but others might not have as much free time as me.

Did a search, but I can't find the information I'm seeking.

Anyone here know what the frequency centers/shelving points are for the bass and treble controls on the USA 9V (HAZ) preamp?

Thanks,

I never inferred you were the only person to practice this. I just mentioned you're probably in the 20%. I guess if I ever get a used Spector with a wood screw in it I'll know where it comes from. :). Maybe then I'll be a convert? Stranger things...
FWIW, the forte is the only one I did this to because, being black (like the bass that started all this), the natural uncolored wood in the hole stuck out visually. The black screw matched the size of the one normally holding the peg (so it can be removed with no harm done).
Matched the color of the bass to be nearly invisible.
And with the flat, flush head sits nice and flush to the body.

You acted as if I had just told everybody to drill holes in their Spectors and put screws in them.
I did no such thing.
I simply explained why this mod works, wasn't the end of the world
and a simple solution if the hole bothered him.

Why this seemed to bother you about the screw, like it was some kind of foreign object (because we all know screws are never used in instrument building/modding) is still a mystery (our disagreement on strap peg position not withstanding).

Man if you find out let us know! I've been wondering that for a long time. I'd just be curious to know if it matches up to what I think.

That's it! Maybe it's because I just had my second ACL surgery and I have a bunch of extra screws in my leg! You are a genius....send me a bill. :)

Hey Phat, I'm over it...never really was arguing or fired up. Just a little spirited discussion that's all. Hard to tell people's tone over these interwebs. I'll PM you my phone number if you need to continue to "discuss". The rest of these guys are probably pretty tired of it. Thanks.

OK... Got an email back from PJ and the 9v is...

Bass: +/- 15db @ 50hz
Treble: +15db / -20db @ 2.8khz

He said that the 18v should have similar center frequencies. He didn't say anything about shelving or second order, etc.

There's a little info here... Invalid Link Removed

I would love to know if they are still planning to add the Mid control to the 18v?

Treble at 2.8 hZ confirms what a lot of us have suspected. That's the magic knob for me....especially on the Brooklyn and Kramer era basses for some reason.
