SPECTOR® Club - Part 66

I was wondering if somebody could tell me what year Spector started putting reinforcement Rods in the Necks of NS-2's and are all NS-2s 3 piece necks? I tried google but couldn't find the answer.

I believe that it was 87. I know 1509 that I have, was one of the first five he started experimenting with graphite rods. As far as the 3 piece necks, all the one's I have seen are but some of the early one's might be different. I'm sure someone can answer that.

In!

One other thing I forgot is that the Euro has a matte finish and the NS-5 will be gloss. That makes a tonal difference too.

I just refinished my Legend 5 from gloss to matte and changed out my pre to TP. No wonder it sounded totally different.......:D
That is interesting though. How did the change in finish affect your basses tone?

I will say after not playing a fiver in quite a while, I think I prefer my 4banger (NS2A) I just feel so clumsy on my fiver.....

I wish I could have kept them all. Each one I had to sell hurt.
But I did spread some joy, as others in this club now own some of these basses.

I had no idea you had that many. Cool to have a visual document like that!

Man...everybody here has like 2+ Spectors...makes me feel inadequate. ^_^
Do they make a pill for that? :D

I really wish there was a Spector dealer in my area, or someone in Canada selling a 6 string Legend. I'm having 2nd thoughts about selling my P-bass & ReBop5 and getting a Stingray 5. Maybe I'll just sell the Classic 50's P and get a Legend 6?

In with zero pics. Been on vacation, Spectorless. Looking forward to reuniting with swampy late tonight or tomorrow! My thoughts are with you today, Ice. Wishing you an uneventful day and a speedy recovery!

First - My prayers for a speedy recovery to Ice.

Second - Sam... very cool idea.

My first post in this forum was artsy photos of my NS-2A back on 02-15-2010 - Part 4 of this club.

Wow.

And here is a look back at all the Spectors I have owned since joining the Club in May of 2011.
I wish I could have kept them all. Each one I had to sell hurt.

I think your 1st post is right when you picked up the white NS2A that I now own. I think it may have hit a few other members as well along the way. I still have the pre that came with it (on my shelf) before I put in the TP then the MM114. Bass is currently in the hands of one Mike Lull getting a set-up/check-up......

My first Spector Club post - before I found out about the trim pot. :)

Ok I hope this is the best place to ask - didn't want to start a new thread.

I just got a new Euro 5XL, ordered new from Musician's Friend (yeah I know not the best vendor sometimes). I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring the controls out.

According to the manual I have configuration B, which is (clockwise starting closest to the pickups) Volume, P/U select, Treble and Bass.

So I start with everything turned completely counter-clockwise - no signal. if I turn just the P/U all the way clockwise, I get signal - even with volume all the way counter-clockwise. Now why would that be? I would think P/U select means a blend between the neck and bridge pickups.

Also, I don't know if it came with the pickups too close to the strings (I'm not too good with setup stuff), but it seems like it's way overdriven. I'm a fairly heavy picker with both my fingers and a pick but not like crazy hammering the strings. I checked the battery in it and the voltage came back good but I put a new one in anyway just to be sure. Same results.

I'm just trying to figure out if what I have is normal or if something's wrong with the electronics. I'm sure this is probably something many of you have gone through getting one of these.

Any help or comments are much appreciated - I want to stay part of the Spector club!.

I didn't realize I was in before Sam and Chris. I guess I didn't participate as much in that first year or so.
