We talked terms and he was mainly happy with my experience and skills, but he absolutely insists that I play a Fender P bass, even after I told him I exclusively play Spectors and am in fact a Spector artist. I don't know what to do. Everything else about the project seems fine, one week to myself in July next year to record all the bass parts (After the drum n guitar parts of course), plenty of time to learn the songs then. I just don't know what to do here. I can't very well go and play a Fender, it's just wrong. I could of course get a Coda, slap a Fender decal on it and hope that he doesn't take a closer look. Or do I try to stick to my guns? Help please!

My favorite recorded tone is a P bass. Even though he uses Spectors live and is a Spector artist he prefers P basses in the Studio.

Maybe send him to tracks, 1 Spector, 1 P bass and dont tell him which is which. Let him pick the one he likes better

One thought... If the amp has an effects loop you could take the output from it and send it to a DI box. If you're using the effects loop then just make the DI box the last thing in line. That DI box would not be affected by the master volume.

This is a good idea. I will try this out next rehearsal and report. Sadly this is thursday next week :(

I have a spare Sansamp DI that should do the job.

Cool, let is know. I have a similar issue because my favorite way to get my bass in the PA is to take the bass direct and to mic the cabinet and mix the two to taste. Of course as the night goes on and I start inching up the volume on the bass rig, you need to make corresponding changes on the FOH. Which isn't too bad as most of the time I'm the soundman too. :D

I love having the power! But it can't take the place of having a soundman you trust and just concentrate on your performance. ;)

This is I think the best idea. Now to go get some cheapass P. Hate playing those things. Like, really don't like it at all. But I hope that he'll go for the Euro, I already converted one band leader :)

Luck guy....but....it can be a heavy work load if your doing both.

You will know how it goes once they get a chance to record the Spector, if the Engineer likes it then let him do the talking as your just there to be the professional hired gun...we all know it will turn out for the best and you will get to play at least some of the songs using the Euro.

Great Spector sound! Did you get that using the RH450?
