I saw Ghost live about a year and a half ago and the Nameless Ghoul's (LOL) tone was awesome. I've needed one in my stable since. I will also say, Spectors are on a totally different level. They are better basses in every way, but, I still love playing my Ps through my little Ampeg Micro-CL when the mood is right.

It's kind of like having a vintage muscle car in the garage that's fun to take out occasionally. The Spectors are the BMWs and Audis (too bad I don't have any of these. haha).

While I don't play my Jazz or Rics much these days, it's always nice to have those tones available in the 'ol toolbox...:bassist:

Great point! I will acknowledge that Fenders existed, and that many modern electric basses evolved from their antiquated design, but I refuse to respect such a crappy instrument. Leo Fender got out when he did for a reason, and went in a different direction.
If Spectors had all of the quality, design, and cosmetic issues that Fenders do, people wouldn't be paying nearly as much for them.

Well, well, well....


It appears that my wait has ended!
Atlanta Bass Gallery just called me. My NS-4 will be there today or tomorrow, and they're shipping it to me, so I should have it sometime next week.

I was bummed about the extra month it took vs. the initial quote, but as many folks said, it will be totally worth it!

I can't wait to post some pics when it arrives!

I don't think Fenders are nearly as bad as you make them out to be. They're a production line instrument. Every production line instrument's going to have flaws. I think the better comparison would be the Custom Shops to the USA Spectors.

Personally, I can find great Fenders everywhere I go. I don't think their MIAs are worth the price bump over the MIMs, but they're still built well and there's a reason that design's stood the test of time and has been copied by MANY boutique/custom builders, too. It works, it's modular & it's easily upgraded/repaired. Sure, it's not a tube quilt maple winged beast of an NS, but it's still a well constructed & designed instrument.

They're not my cup of tea.

I see many of the club members posting pics on FB and other places, playing live shows with Fenders and Rics. Some of them have never posted a pic of a show with a Spector!
You are correct, though. Fenders are functional instruments. I think they went from being the only game in town to being a lower-end instrument over the last two decades, though. A lot of it is the result of mergers and acquisitions.

On the P-talk again:) I've read quite a lot of posts of you guys regarding p-sound earlier today and out of curiosity tried my both NS-2 with P-pups fully on, EQ flat (I had Fender Precision before so I knew my expectations). I was not so impressed with my fretted NS-2 strung with rounds but man, what an awesome p-bass thump I got out of my fretless NS-2 with flats on! It is so close to that "perfect P-sound" that I have in my head, I am sure to use it now when I need this p-bass tone. The difference between "poor" fretted NS-2 p-tone and "perfect" fretless p-tone I think results from using flats on my fretless NS-2. So I can figure out that if I strung my fretted NS-2 with flats, roll the highs a bit off and put EQ flat on my amp that would be just what I want.
