8am sound check tomorrow for my band SGHOP 10am play...we are the front band on a 4 band concert at the county fairgrounds...each band plays a 1 1/2 hr. time slot. Looking forward to a great time playing Big Blue!:bassist:

The long and short of it for stilla: The SSD pickups in general are weakish and middy, but kind of muffly from what I've heard. The first step would be to upgrade those to active EMG pickups. Some EMG pickups and preamps have "quick connects" which don't require soldering, but some do require soldering, I prefer passive pickups mostly myself so I don't have a lot of EMG experience, this Legend is my only one. My advice would be to try pickups first to get the most of the bass, you can always run the onboard preamp flat, and EQ the bass through your amp, then upgrade the preamp on the bass later.

I thought the Jr. TP did a great job in my former Legend 4...everyone should swap out the synthetic string nut for a brass string nut though...amazing growl and sustain! Makes all the difference in the Legends. The SSD pickups were just fine, IMHO.

Love those TI Jazz strings! I bought a set for my Big Blue, Spector Coda 5XL Jazz bass. The more they break in, the better they sound! They develop a bite and sustain! I've had this set on since Dec. 2013 after Christmas and I practice every day 2-3 hours, gig 2-4 times a week. Expensive but worth every penny, FWIW.

GHS Precision SS FW have been my go to string for several years now. If you want low tension buy the lights. They last forever! Even though the TIs are giving them a good run...we'll see about the longevity though. :D

I play almost every weekend and this weekend it will be for church, they are remodeling the stage so we are moving downstairs which will be a lot of fun. Next week I wont be playing unless the guys at the Spector Hang want to jam, I think it will be kind of cool if we all get to jam with Todd and PJ! Torn will probably take the month of August off so we can focus on learning some new songs, we kind of got into a cycle of playing a lot and need a break so we can get back into the practice room so we can deliver the goods on our September bookings....I like to surprise people! lol

It was covered in stickers at one point by the look of it (I'm probably the 15th or so owner haha), and the finish under them didn't yellow as fast. The circle is easily visible because a layer or two of clear coat came off with that sticker. they were all removed by the previous owner, but I can still spot the outlines of Korn and Godsmack stickers (on the back) and a NIN sticker (between the pickups, barely visible in my picture). Whatever the circle was, it put up a fight.

This coming first Friday I'll finally have at least one of my Forte SS basses! :D

The walnut refinished all maple one is just a touch behind schedule, so I may just have to survive on the Helium until the following week ;)

Very cool Matt. I'm interested in what you think of the Helium and I'd love to see the Walnut refin Forte when it's done. Still don't have an ETA on mine.

Don't be bummed! We will have another one in the future, I'm sure of that and remember it will be Stuarts turn to get out of the shop and come hang with us!

I'm very glad that most of you who originally wanted to attend but couldn't work it out to make it are hopeful for another Spector Hang...this club is full of some outstanding individuals, always very helpful towards each other and even if we don't have the right answer someone always comes to the rescue to assist.

I've seen in the recent past in our Spector family here that a brother was having trouble with a Euro bass electronics and was able to send it to Spector in N.Y. And Jimmie fixed it, made it right. Make contact with PJ about the troubles you're having with your new Euro...from what I've heard on here I'd think he'd make it right. Good luck!

Well...our concert at the fairgrounds was rained on this morning before we got started:sorry: After sound check with all bands in attendance, we played our set anyways...and wouldn't you know, after we played our last song the rain quit and blue sky broke thru! Lol :p We had fun performing in front of the other bands anyways:bassist::bassist::bassist: I hope everyone else gigs went great this weekend! Atleast I have 2 more gigs tomorrow...indoors!:D

I got the Coda all set up and ready for tomorrow, I have been playing Scarlet because I'm attached to the tone that bass can produce but the songs I'll cover tomorrow have a blue grass type of style so out comes the P with the neck relief fine tuned and the electronics adjusted to fatted up the bass....The neck on the Coda bass is perfect for my hand.

SPECTOR HANG 2014 Hosted by Todd Cooke at The Guitar House of Tulsa featuring PJ Rubal Vice President of Spector and the Spector club members from Talkbass.

The original idea for this event came from Michael and his planned trip, got its name from Gary and then started to grow with Jeff's and PJ's involvement but this could not have happened without Todd Cooke allowing us to spend the time at his store in Tulsa and having all the members as well as some local bassists that are interested in the Spector brand signing up to attend...I want to thank all of you for the assistance and the interest in signing up for the very first Spector Hang, we will be taking some notes about what works and what doesn't work learning from the very first get together...and...just think about it, on Saturday when all of the basses are displayed we can send that picture to the club to cover a fantastic 'first Saturday' picture (we might be a day late for first Friday...lol).

Had a great time playing an open house for a local motorcycle dealership yesterday... They put us right across from the bikini bike wash... O_o

Can't wait. Plan to drive part of the way Thursday night to get there a bit earlier on Friday. What is the plan on Friday? Is there a meet up and "bass drop-off" at Todd's store?

If you would like to drop off your basses with Todd please contact him with your arrival time to make arrangements but most of us will be doing the set up on Saturday at 10:00...things are flexible enough to assist your needs. When do you think you will check in of Friday?

A couple of reminders for the Spector Hang folks:

If you have not emailed me with your planned attendance please do so, I will make sure to have you on our list of people expected to be at Dave & Busters.

Remember to bring stands for your basses/guitars, with the number of instruments that will be at the event it will be better to have enough but I'm sure we will have a few extras just in case someone forgets.

If your flying remember to contact the Hyatt Place with your flight plan so they can pick you up if your not renting a car, once your at the Hyatt there will be some members who can assist getting you to Dave & Busters and The Guitar House for the activities.
