It sounds as if a lot of people are in the same position I am with thinking of ordering a new "Custom Spector". I was wondering if anyone can say with any accuracy if the ReBop and the Bolt on NS4-H have the similar / exact same size? The reason I ask, is I've gotten really fond of my ReBop's neck, but I want more options than what the ReBop offers. That's my main reasoning for looking into the US build. I was really hoping the necks are the same, since they're coming from the same factory.

One thing of note, the string spacing is slightly wider at the bridge on the USA bolt on, which is probably due to the Hipshot bridge. The Rebop is .75" at the bridge and the USA bass is .822" on the 4 string. Nut width is the same, I'm personally leaning toward the NS4H2 with DC pickups, this way I can swap out the EMG 35DC for EMG P or J pickups in the same size housing if I want to experiment with different pickup options.

I believe the bolt on necks go a little wider as they move towards the body, the best thing to do is measure the nut, the 12th fret, and the 24th fret and compare...my NS2 neck thru is 1.625" at the nut, 2.125" at the 12th, and 2.375" at the 24th.

With all the craziness of getting ready for the Spector Hang I forgot to post a photo of the new NS-2 High Gloss Helium we received. I know a lot of the guys got to try it out. This bass RAWKS!!!

My Coda P is lighter than any of my NS2 basses, you might want to compare between them or its to the helium for you! I thought you had surgery planned to correct your problems?

Lighter is good but also the profile of the NS body, curved top, scooped back will help me out. I could be all washed up but I'm really willing to give it a try. I still remember the feel of the NS body from my Forte 4&5...the surgery is a cleanup of what's being destroyed within my left shoulder, there is no fix at this time, I'm hoping for relief of what's causing the excruciating pain, but the gap is narrowing between my socket & ball so I'm hoping to slow this down by decreasing weight on my bass as well as shoulder positioning during playing.

I concur. Those Fortes were fantastic. And I should know. I owned them both. haha.

I also concur about the BO NS-2. I'm particularly taken by Gary's, but I really like all of the bolt-ons that I've seen to date. I hope you're shoulder feels better and that big blue stays in the family.

Maybe the harness-type straps that transfer instrument weight to your body/ hips, or the ones with dual shoulder straps. Google "slinger straps" or "gruvgear duostrap".

You're going to have to look at an older model bolt on then, the curved body NS bolt-on basses were discontinued around 2007/2008 if memory serves me correctly.

No. Very different dimensions. Shorter heel extension on the USA, and a wider overall neck.

this was posted this morning by TB'er lomo on the Lakland thread. Thought it might be an interesting thing to check out as well:

I wear a device that's like a weight lifter's belt. On the front it has a short leather strap that hangs about where my belt buckle is (this position can be rotated from side to side to taste). Attached to the leather is a Dunlop straplock. This clicks into a recessed Dunlop receiver drilled into the lower body edge of my bass. Therefore the weight of the bass is pretty much all on my hips. I wear a regular strap to keep the bass in position but only about 10% of the bass' weight ends up on my shoulders. When I decide where to install the recessed straplock receiver in the lower edge of the bass, I hold the bass with 1 finger to find the balance point that I like, and that's where I put it. A little towards the neck to bring up the headstock or a little more towards the bridge to bring the headstock down: I choose precisely how I want the bass to hang every time. Right now I am out of town and cannot get pics, but next week I will post a separate, mini thread to illustrate this. It saved my bass playing because I had severe shoulder issues and could only stand with an 8 lb bass for 2o minutes beofre being in severe pain. Now bass weight is no big deal. I still prefer lighter basses, but I could play a 12 lb bass on the belt all night if I wanted to.

in other matters, my GK MB Fusion 800 amp arrived and its swell. So articulate it's going to make me a better player.
As a result, I don't need two hybrid tube/Class D amps in the arsenal, so the Streamliner is now on the market.

The build quality, balance, everything about them are amazing. As someone pointed out the other day (Zitch I think), the US Bolt-ons are flying under the radar..... amazing basses, IMO!

Don't the bolt-ons typically have much lower weight than the neck-thru models? I know the typical ReBop weighs at least 1-2 lbs less than the typical Euro and I think the US versions follow suit on this. I would think that would play a huge role if I were making that decision.

I know we all the like the NS body shape best, but the bolt-ons are still pretty ergonomic (same curves as NS, but more subtle IIRC) and, if they are significantly lighter AND less expensive, that seems like a win-win. In any case, I am sorry to see anyone forced to sell such a beautiful bass for health reasons. I hope you do find what you're looking for.
