All of my prior Spectors were 35" (two Euro's and one USA bolt on). I do really like the way my new Helium 34" 5 string feels.

It's not just the bridge placement. With a 35" scale, the space between all the frets is wider. So you have reach a bit more with a 35" scale than you would with a 34" scale. But tuned to the same pitch, the 35" scale will have higher string tension, which gives a tighter and brighter tone.

I've never compared the length of a 34" to a 35" scale bass, but it is my understanding that the bridge is moved an inch closer to the rear of the bass. Therefore, a 34" and 35" scale bass should be the same length from the rear to the end of the headstock for the same model bass.

My understanding is the only difference between the 34 and 35 scale is the bridge placement is moved back an inch. Same neck. I just received my 35 scale 4 string and the neck distance feels the same to me, but hey what's an extra inch ;-)

Correct. The only difference will be dimensions between the frets which may/or may not cause discomfort to your fingers.

35" scale 4 stringers are different. The frets are measured a little wider (more stretch) and the bridge is kicked back to the heel. Also the pickup position is in a different place so the tone is also different than a 34" scale. They have more string tension than 34' scale tuned same (as noted) but also work VERY well for BEAD or Drop tuning. I drop one of my 35''s x2 times and sounds great.
The pickup config goes for the PJ version as well as the soapbox version.

On another note, I have a 34" scale EURO5LX thats dropped 1 step and drop (C) on the E string. It works you just have to have the right string tension.

Spector's work great for alternate tunings.

If I'm not mistaken those are B500k longshaft pots, impossible to find but you could use a A500 as an alternative.
