I decided to take my SSD NS-4 FL off the market. After playing it for a while this morning, I made the decision. It would be one that I would have regretted letting go. This is my third fretless bass, and it is by far the best playing fretless of them all with it's thin spec neck. It's sort of a "Plain Jane" fretless compared to all the other flashy Spector fretless basses, but I'd put this bass up against any other fretless bass as far as the way this one plays, at least IMO.

I would have to agree with you on the buying and selling of fretless basses. In this case though, I'm glad that they are harder to get rid of, or I may not have had the option of holding on to it. I've see your beeeeg fretless before, and I wouldn't mind taking a shot a playing one like that. But, where would I put it? I did try out a double bass quite a few years back, in the '90s, and was about half able to play it.

Spector Legend that I acquired for cheap due to electronics issues. It was amber (bright orange) with a kinda strange looking veneer... could not get used to the look of it, so I decided to refinish while replacing the electronics. Also did a lot of contouring on the body and moved the jack to top since I prefer v/v/t and like the jack where it's more accessible.
EMG JX and DCX pickups, I'll be swapping positions to see which one I like in which spot. Much prefer the sound of the active EMG over the original HZ. This is my first experience with EMG, the installation was unbelievably easy and the sound is great. Love the fact that I can swap out pickups without soldering; I'll probably try a PX once I'm able to get hold of one (with EMG factory in lockdown down I was unable to locate one).
Question for the folks with lot of EMG experience: is the soapbar version of P and J pickups identical in sound to the regular P and J shapes? I really love playing this bass and see myself eventually adding a Euro to the herd... the flexibility of soapbar pickups is awesome since there are so many different flavors and they can be used in either position. But, I love the sound of P pickups and thus wondering if the soapbar P is truly equivalent to the regular one.

That's no legend my man. That's an NS2000/4. I used to own the 5 string version in Amber Stain. I'm guessing it looked like this before the refin?

Hey @beatdatthang , I am looking at the same exact one in my local craigslist, the guy is asking $500 for it without a case and with all original parts (tho it looks like a brass nut was added), it looks in good shape and assuming that the neck is good. I may upgrade the preamp and pickups, but is that a fair price you think?

Hmm... was listed as a Legend... but GC so anything is possible. I shoulda taken some Before pics... but no it didn't look like your picture, the sides were straight just slightly rounded along the edge (I did a lot of contouring) and it had a veneer top. Made in Korea. Back was flat with a Fender style belly contour. I like the one in your picture, probably would not have refinished if it looked like that!

That is a 2000/4 for sure. That nut is stock. Great bass.

I just got a new Spector, my first Spector. I got a Euro4 LE1979 as Sweetwater was blowing them out. upon arrival it had a middle of the road set up. I took a little more relief out of the neck, put the strings I like on, lowered the action and got it playing the way I like.

I knew, with the upper horn falling short of the 12th fret that first position would be a stretch so it was a gamble. I've come to find that I don't mind it. I really like how the upper register is more accessible and boy this neck is comfy. Furthermore, These Dimarzios are Phat! I think they're much more my style than the EMG. I do like the EMGs though. I have another bass with EMG but Why are people not talking about these Dimarzios?! Guess they're old hat.

Incoming I have all gold hardware, a SNC US Haz Clone Preamp, creme Dimarzio pickups, and switches for series/parallel. taking it back more original.

In short, I'm really digging this bass. I may have found my new jam.

I'll post pics when im finally done

Nice! Let us know how that pre sounds with the DiMarzios. I love the DiMarzio P on the 77LE.

Been watching them for weeks/months and debating getting one. I watch them have 4 and then 3 and then 2. Now there is one left. I'm a big matte finish neck guy. Can't stand playing a gloss neck. It gets all sticky on stage when I sweat and it's annoying. Enjoy it!!

Hello guys, I'm quite new to the Spector world. I own an Euro6 XL, Poplar Burl top with black hardware and EMG TW / TP.
I'm quite curious about the NS 6 XL and may pull the trigger...

I'm a bit stuck between their body wood choice... My Euro is Alder, and I tend to find it mellow, i'm searching for a bit more aggresive & growly tone, bright but full. Thinking about Swamp Ash wing or Reclaimed Redwood (too midrange ?), with Pau Ferro or Ebony ? All that with EMGs HAZ 18v.
